Located in a prime spot on the waterfront with great views along the river and up towards Clifton, this is to an extent a victim of it’s own success and gets absolutely rammed in the summer months with punters spilling out all over the pedestrianised walkway in front of the pub and the consequent problems of finding somewhere to perch and getting served. At this time of the year though, it’s all together much more civilised and is still a decent pub in it’s own right.

Internally it’s a single, open plan L-shaped room and has a slightly nautical feel perhaps which is befitting given it’s location. The flooring is mostly dark wooden boards along with some chequered tiling by the bar counter whilst aqua blue wood panelling covers the whole of the front wall. Benches at right angles to the wall are presumably designed to maximise the views. Elsewhere the walls were a mixture of more aqua blue wood panelling on the lower part and white plaster work above. There were a couple of chunky beams on the otherwise smooth plastered ceiling, and a few old nautical maps on the wall as well as several old black and white photographs of the locale.

Beers on tap were all from Butcombe or their parent company with Original, Gold and Liberation Ale. Ciders meanwhile were from the same stable with Ashton Press and Ashton Still. Overall, whilst not the most exciting drinks range perhaps, the traditional, if slightly contemporary, ambience and the winning location make this well worth seeking out.

The Cottage Inn is a decent looking stone built pub that is by the harbour side.
Once inside the bar faces in an L shaped room which is bare boarded, there is bench seating and chairs and normal tables and chairs, plus some tall tables and chairs in the middle of the room.
The pub is now a Butcombe tied house, there were two real ales on the bar,i ahd a drink of Butcombe Bitter, which went down well, the other real ale was Butcombe Forty Two.
Food was being served and the pub was very busy on my Saturday dinner visit.
I thought this was a very nice pub that is in a good location.

A recent re-visit was poorly-timed, with the footy fans having drunk the bar almost dry prior to the City match down the road at Ashton Gate. Made do with a decent half of the only ale survivor, Butcombe (though to be fair, the staff were beginning to prep the empty pumps for new beers). Still doing a good job here and it's a worthy inclusion if crawling the immediate area, especially if you can bag one of those elusive outside seats!

A pub that should be visited primarily in the daytime for it's fantastic views over the docks. The inside has a number of partitioned areas which make for a pleasant, almost 'country pub' ambience alongside some inevitable nautical-themed memorabilia. The beer range was fairly good, I had a good pint of the Bristol Beer Factory's Christmas ale which was in good form. Butcombe seems to predominate the choice, with a couple of guests on if you're lucky. We also ate here - the food was fair enough for the price. They were also able to alter one of the dishes a little to cope with a dietary requirement, so a tick for them there.

Pretty good and worth seeking out.

Another former harbour side building that has now a different use as a public house, this time the former harbourmasters office.
Location wise, its in a fantastic position providing very good views of Clifton up the hill across the harbour and on up to Clifton. Internally it is one open room but subdivide into several areas , most with tables for dining. And as you’d expect from its location there is a bit of a nautical theme to the decor. To the front of the pub is an outside patio area with a limited number of wooden bench seating, but this is a popular spot when the suns out, as it was on the Sunday we visited and you need to be prompt to get a space outside.
We didn’t eat, but a lot of people were, so it seemed quite a popular place for this, and the food menu was quite extensive and traditional pub fare.
The pub is a Butcombe house and there are four hand pumps on the bar which were dispensing Bitter, Brunel IPA and Gold and then a Guest Ale. The two Butcombe beers we tried were very well kept.
All in all a decent pub with good beer and food , but best of all , a fantastic location on a sunny day. Well worth seeking out.

Acquired by Butcombe Brewery in 2009, this is one of the best pubs around Bristol Docks.

Great harbourside position with extensive outside drinking area and views of Brunels 'Underfall Yard' & lockside area. The interior, which plays on the nautical theme is nice to retreat into when it turns chilly. Serves good 'pub food'.
