Food based pub with the bar in the middle. Hobgoblin only on hand pump with another being changed. Not quite as bad as Alex says below but not that brilliant either.

The Tuck and Tanner is a new build pub on the exact same site the old Royal hunt stood on before its demolition in 2005. It is a Marston’s pub and comes under a new spin off brand of theirs called “Generous George” which comes across as a ever so slightly more high end version of Greene Kings Hungry horse concept. They have spent a lot of money on this place (reportedly £3milllion) and it shows as the inside was modern but very appealing. There is a beer in the centre of the pub that bends around a long way to the left with an open plan L shaped seating area and a semi partitioned bit at the back that houses a pool table. The decor was quite nice and new and not the worst type of modern I have seen although it still doesn’t beat a traditional one and overall it was very chain like. There were half a dozen hand pulls on the bar and all from the main Marston’s stable that included Wainwright, Pedigree, Oxford Gold, Hobgoblin plus a couple I failed to note. The Pedigree was in fine form (£3.05) as it should be on opening night. Now for the bad part….
Unfortunately there is a reason that all but one of Top valleys and Bestwoods Estate pubs have been pulled down, because of the far from desirable people who live in the area and bring valance and crime into these places. On my visit on the grand opening the place was overrun with rough characters that finally have somewhere to go drinking again. There was a swarm of chavs in tracksuits everywhere and the bad language flying around 9mostly from fat middle aged women) was truly off-putting. I really don’t know what Marstons were thinking when they decided on this place but some’re someone with a business plan must think they can make it work, let’s just hope there isn’t another major “incident” that shuts it down like all of its neighbour pubs, something I see as quite unlikely. On the Brightside it means myself and the residents of Sherwood can finally have our pubs back.
Its ok for a quick decent pint but god help anyone going here on a weekend evening, just because its new and modern don’t be fooled into think it’s going to behave like that.

The Royal Hunt was an estate pub that looked a bit different to most i have been,it was situated on the tough Top valley estate.
Once inside the pub had a decent sized bar where me and my brother had a drink and a smarter lounge which had comfy bench seating.
The pub was an Home Ales tied house,we had a drink of Home bitter which was a decent drink.
Sadly the Royal Hunt went downhill fast like most pubs in this area of Nottingham and finally closed down around 2004 and was pulled down
Yet another rough North Nottingham pub to bite the dust.
