I called in with a few minutes to kill before checking (for the third time) whether the nearby Hole in the Wall was open, but I didn't stop long. First thing I noticed was a bad smell of body odour. I also couldn't help noticing that all the hand pumps had their pump clips turned around - delivery glitch or policy change? I didn't have time to ask, as the third thing I noticed was someone singing very loudly and very badly. Karaoke at 4:45pm? I beat a hasty retreat.

Very popular town centre pub that attracts a very rough and ready crowd. As described the central bar is surrounded by different drinking areas all the way around and is actually a lot bigger with more seats and tables than you might expect looking in from the street. there is actually some really nice old fashioned decor inside the pub with some nice original features. beer wise there are four real ale pumps with two on the front and two on the back bar so make sure you don't miss them as I nearly did. On my visit these were dispensing Greene King IPA and Abbot as well as Slipstones Gold Star and Bombardier that was turned around. I opted for the Gold Star at £2.80 and got 10% off for being a camera member so ended up paying £2.52, It was in Ok Condition but maybe towards the back end of it's life, I've had better.

On my Thursday mid afternoon visit the pub was very busy as it always seems to be as there are cheap Fosters (£2.50) and john smiths (£2.40) offers always available, But like I said there were a few shady characters about. This was fine for a daytime beer but with so many better options around I doubt I would visit again, especially in the evening when things can really heat up. Glasses are banned on Friday and Saturday nights, it's one of those sort of places. Not for the fait hearted, one for the visitors to avoid.

This used to be a Shipstones tied house.
This pub is usually busy it has been knocked through since the late 80s to make one room, this has made it fairly smart but the same mainly irish crowd still go in there. The bar is in the middle of the room with seating around it there are a couple of real ales on the bar but nothing special usually Tetley Bitter or Bombadier.
This pub is a bit rough and ready and not a place to take your wife like i used to.
