A traditional, back street pub situated just off Coronation Road, it was pretty much full to capacity on a recent Friday evening visit with a good mix of punters in.

Decor wise it’s quite traditional too with a wood strip floor, dark brown painted wood panelling on the lower part of the walls and very dark, almost black paintwork up above. There were a few small brown beams on the ceiling and some colourful artwork up above the bar counter. Seating was a mixture of red velvet padded bench seating around the perimeter, chairs and padded stools with chunky opine tables. A couple of TV screens were showing a Mission Impossible film, but the volume was muted so this was not too intrusive. A shelf above the bar housed an eclectic collection of objects including a dinosaur skeleton and a dalek.

Beers on tap consisted of a trio from Wickwar with their Bob, Star and Cotswold Way along with Doom Bar and Hopback Summer Lightning. Ciders too were well represented with three from Thatcher’s – Haze, Gold and Traditional and these were joined by Blackthorn.

Summer Lightning, Autumn Glow, Red Ember, GFB, Crop Circle, Downton New Forest. Plain long bar facing door, big pine tables, rock&roll soundtrack. Heard fellow punter offer barman a drink – he said “I'll have a bottle of Bud if that's ok”. No! That's so bloody wrong! Can't remember if he rescinded the offer, I would have.
