The Nags Head is located on Nuthall road just as Alfreton road comes to a finish. It is in the shadow of the much larger and grander looking Wheatsheaf that has just sadly finished its conversion into a McDonalds but the Nags Head Lives on. It is the middle of a terrace of buildings and is one large square room with the bar running along the left hand side. There are several supporting beams that have some partitioning panels that separate the pub up a little but decoration is on the minimal side that the overall decor is traditional and a little dated with basic carpets but quite a lot of nice bench Seating. I was not expecting a great deal from this pub but I nearly died three times over when the bar had SIX real ale pumps. I was astounded, especially a very rough and ready part of the Nottingham. I was informed by the friendly bar girl that Since Star had taken over o few months back that real ale had been introduced and was being pushed. This was fantastic news and I was really pleased to see it happening. It’s great to see pubs realise the value of real ale and to see a slightly shabby placed like this give it a go I think is highly commendable. There were four beers available with one in the process of being cleaned and one unused. The choice was Theakston’s Old Peculiar and Black Bull (£3.15) and two that looked like re badged Caledonian brews called Star ale and three wheatsheaf’s gold. I opted for the black bull bitter that I am afraid to say was cloudy and not at its best. I was very disappointed at this but persevered. We finished and went off. The beer was a real disappointment on the experience but at least they have somewhere to go from here, All they need is a few more cellar lessons about conditioning and they will be good to go. I hope they get a grasp on things because with no better competition in the surrounding area a decent real ale pub could reap rewards around these parts. It gets a six for effort but has the potential to be much better. Hopefully some more influence from Heineken and this place could be one to watch. I think at the moment they have the usual problem of too many poor beers whereas I think one or two really good beers would see them in good stead.

The Nags Head is one of three pubs in the whitemoor area of Nottingham and all three are still up and running.
This was a fairly smart pub inside with decent bar at the front and a smarter lounge to the rear, the pub used to be an Home Ales tied house and there were two real ales on the bar,on the few occasions i have been in this pub i have had a drink of Home bitter and this has been a very nice drink the other beer was Home mild.
I dont know what beers are now on here.
