Multiroomed pub built into the side of rock under the former Nottingham Castle. The pub also has a museum room. The courtyard is covered and the pavement area also has seats. Six real ales are served including Olde Trip plus good number of guests. Food is served all day.

We often pop into here for one when in Nottingham despite the fact that it's very touristy. The first few times I called in here it was a Hardy & Hansons pub, which was swallowed up be Greene King sadly. These days there are GK beers on the bar, but they're also allowed a decent range of guest ales. Downstairs isn't that interesting although it's all very old of course and they have a ring the bull game in one corner. Upstairs is the gem where you can find the pregnancy chair and the haunted galleon amongst other oddities. The beer is usually in good condition as it should be as they have a quick turnover. It's a must visit, at least once, when in Nottingham.

Have visited the olde Trip on numerous occasions and discovered something new each time. Truely a fasicnating building built into the caves under Nottingham Castle, its friendly atmposphere is helped by a decent range of ales and lagers including its own 'Olde Trip' bitter and a wide ranging menu including pies, snacks and sandwiches. Souveniers on sale. Limited parking and small outside seating area

Thought by some to be the oldest pub in England it is in fact relatively 'new' compared to the actual oldest, which I believe is in St Albans, or the second oldest - The Eagle and Child (947 AD) in Stow on the Wold. This quirky pub is cut into the sandstone cliff beneath the castle near the city centre. The rear part of the pub is actually a series of caves. Car parking very limited. Although I've been there many times I've never felt comfortable and although they frequently change their real ales they were never better than average. A place to visit for the experience & to say you have been there. Somewhere near here, prince Edward (later Edward III) gained access to the castle via the caves & arrested Roger Mortimer.
