Right on the station level crossing, friendly, traditional 2 roomed pub. Great beer choice served in excellent condition.

This place seems to be something of an institution in this part of the world. I completely failed to realise that there were two rooms as I walked in to see a row of 12 hand pumps so went no further. The room I entered was wide with a stone flagged floor.
Beers available were mainly local with more than one from Sonnet 43, Hadrian and Fyne. I tried the Sonnet 43 Aurora(£3.20) and the North Yorkshire White Lady (£3.30) both of which were excellent.
This is a superb pub where you can while away the time watching all the trains you're missing go sailing past.

Only take 20 mins by train from Newcastle Central, trains running every hour. You will see the pub as you come out the station, so no searching round needed. This two room pub has 15 ever changing handpulls all year round and 3 ciders. Friendly staff and chatty regulars. I went for the High House Farm Sundancer and Lizzie Dimples and also Summer Wine Brewery Red Hop. Will call again.

Update ...Visited again over the August Bank Holiday. Now up to 14 ales available and there was a Scottish Highland and Islands beer festival on. Beer as good as ever in here.

Superb stone flagged floor pub right next to Wylam railway station. This is must visit pub if in the area. There was an Island beer festival on during our visit. 12 hand pulls meant there was plenty of choice of real ales to choose from.

Well deserved entry in the 2010 Good Beer Guide, we found the ales tried here superb. The Island Beer Festival was still on with plenty of choice on about 14 handpulls. The folk both sides of the bar were ever so friendly and the atmosphere was great. Bar laden with various food. Not nuts and crisps but the most tasty offerings like black pudding and garlic bread. Great place.

One of the best pubs in the country. Great atmosphere, and a selection of beers that any beer buff will die for. The occasional band gets in which is all the better.
