Dropped in this GK Old English Inn while passing through Towcester due to easy parking. It remains as described by BF below. It has the feeling of a hotel bar that wants to be a pub but is really the restaurant if that makes sense. At any rate, some bits are vaguely pubby if you ignore the place settings. Just Tribute and Rocking Rudolph on the pumps. The former turned out to be off - I suspect it hadn't been on all day, this was about 4pm - and we didn't fancy the latter. So a bottle of lager and a J2O came the wrong side of seven quid.

Very much a routinely mediocre performance by GK. If you're staying the night there are far better places nearby to seek refreshment.

A GK owned historic coaching inn in the centre of Towcester well described by the previous reviewer that is now branded as one of Green King's Old English Inns, and as such has a focus on food sales. For the record Abbott, IPA, OSH and Old Trip were on the four ale pumps and I did stay for a half of IPA which was well… GK IPA and in the words of the social media savvy younger generation… nuff said!
Comfortable place to take in a meal but not the type of place to enjoy a traditional pub session on the ale..

A very fine Northamptonshire stone exterior to the former coaching inn,now owned by Greene King.Entering through an archway, the hotel reception is left while the bar is to the right.Between the two is a covered courtyard with some wooden tables, while towards ther rear car park there is a large collection of upmarket garden furniture should you wish to drink or dine outside. The bar is on various different levels and in seperate sections, which breaks up the space.Quite a large part of the interior has tables set up for diners, but around the serving bar to the rear left handside there are tables, chairs, high tables and sofas for drinkers.
I glanced at the menu which is more upmarket than some GK offerings but I suspect food service is at work here. The bar has four handpumps serving GK IPA,Old Speckled Hen,St Edmunds Bitter and a Saracens Bitter described as a Landlord's Choice but with no brewery provenance,so almost certainly from the same mega brewery in Bury St Edmunds as the other brews.A delay in bar service gave me the ideal opportunity to bail out without having to suffer a very indifferent half, having already scoped the interior.
Not a place to discover the deep of joy of drinking fine ale,but a handsome building nevertheless.
