Thuck Phat left this review about The Maltsters Arms

The Maltsters is a traditional Northamptonshire pub which has been relatively unchanged over a number of years. The signs of modernity are in a couple of big screens showing Sky Sports news.
The welcome from the barmaid was friendly and the locals were all on good form. It's a very pleasant pub which is, unfortunately, let down by its beer.
Two beers were on: 6X and Doombar, both tangy and vinegary. In fairness we were the first ale drinkers in on a quiet Friday lunchtime and they may be better when the pub is busier. Nonethless they should have been pulled off before being served to us.
I'd be willing to give this another go.

Built of Northamptonshire stone this is clearly an old building with low ceilings to the front. To the left of the entrance there is a strange mixture of kitchen tables, pine chairs and sofas, with a brick fireplace unlit and a flatscreen for Sky Sports. To the right there is more traditional furniture and a well stocked book rent scheme while the bar extends from here back up a level to a large back area with a pool table and fruit machines.Upstairs there is a dedicated pool room aswell.Throughout there are exposed beams and posts, although the main focus here is on televised sports events, which well behaved youngsters are allowed to watch, otherwise children out by 7pm is the rule.No sign of any food.
There are three handpumps, with Doom Bar and 6X on during my trip but both were in poor nick, probably been sitting in the pipes overnight and not pulled through. There was a very friendly welcome from the new landlady with all the correct assets, and the locals were friendly too.The muzak however was rather loud and when "Blue is the Colour" came blaring out,the only option was to seek pastures new.
