A bit off putting to have a bouncer at half three in the afternoon even on Saturday and even if it was a smiley lady. Inside it’s long and thinnish, a wider sitting room at the front probably the original bar, behind a residual wall is a half counter then further on it widens to another sitting area with clear windows onto the street behind. There is a rear door into this street. Three pulls with Taylors Landlord, Wainwright and an own badged beer from who knows? It has a harbour view at the front, a big map of Whitby on one wall by the counter, a mix of posters, etc on the cream walls above grey plague tongue & groove, while bare boards and bits of bench seating complete the scene. Cash only.

Another pub that I swerved on my recent visit to Whitby, though in this instance I took advantage of the back door, walked past the bar while checking out the beer offering and straight out of the front. For the record, beers on offer were Old Speckled Hen, Wainwright and a blonde guest whose name escaped me. It seemed like a pleasant enough pub, but with nothing on the bar to tempt me, I decided to leave it for another occasion.

Bar in the middle with front and back rooms and two entrances. Adnam's Broadside @ 4.7% ABV was one of the three hand pumps.

Interesting pub, tiny bar servery half way in, there is a basic front bar, middle section then a stripped back bar at the end to the adjoining street. Not large at all & some of the walls seemed plain, but there are murals of the abbey and fishing boat. There is a juke box. Only one real ale on my visit, but this was Whitby Abbey Blonde and was exceptionally kept - best pint I had in the whole town. All round good experience.

Another white rendered terraced pub, that still looks decent from the outside.

The inside is fine too - its like the Buck, in that its an open plan long narrow room - with pool and a separate tv room, cut off by the serving bar. The service is fine and there was a good number of people in.

Sadly, beer wise, its just the usual taps and Black Sheep bitter on handpull. It was decent enough, but not enough to bring me back when there are far better places, with more variety of real ale
