Old Boots left this review about The Granby

Two bars, split in level into an upper and a lower, older decor with benches, Britannia tables and old wooden chairs. Panelled walls and a weirdly placed unisex toilet vestibule which looks like you’re going behind the counter. The nicely decorated counter holds four pulls of cask, three Theakstons and Leeds Pale, these are repeated in the upper bar. Usual kegs on a mix of fixings. Pervasive foody smell and iffy beer were my take aways.

Two rooms - only went in the left hand side one. Real fire, not lit. The bar had Old Peculiar on hand pump which went down well.

Split level, larger than it looks pub. Both areas of the bar are similar in decoration & rather avereragely pub-like, tartan carpet, padded benches etc. There is some exposed stone but otherwise very ordinary.

Live sport and pipped music. Its ok, just very average.

The beer, 5 real ales split between Theakstons and Marstons.

I visit Whitby at least once a year and I last ventured into the Granby two years ago. It was a dreary place and the real ales were far too cold.

I popped in again this Easter and my word, what a change. There was an array of well kept real ales, the Snecklifter being a real highlight. The food was plentiful, relatively cheap, and delicious. In fact, we came in a number of times.

This is now a must do in Whitby!

Great pub. Has a good mix of locals and tourists. Very friendly, a great pint of Cameron's available...and a decent Yorkshire Pudding filled with meat for tea!!!
