I was in Thirsk a week ago. I was last in the Royal in 2015 so had a nosey through the window to see what the beer offering was. I spotted three pumps with just one on, offering Black Sheep. Didn't bother calling in on that basis.

Another narrow long pub with bar to left. Weak real ales on sale. Not inspiring at all.

Split level pub serving 3 real ales. The pub has a dartboard, pool table and was advertising live music.

We didn't actually enter this pub, which I think was a good decision. As we were making our way back to the hotel there were 4 coppers trying to sort out a large bunch of idiots having a bit of a set to outside. Nice, what a class place.

Bare and basic town boozer, in three sections from front to back. The front and middle sections house the bar counter down the lefthand side with leather clad bench seating, stools and Britannia tables round the periphery, small TV screens and games machines are also housed here. At the back of the middle area is a large projection screen, probably the biggest screen in Thirsk outside of the Ritz cinema, for showing the heavily advertised Sky Sports. Finally further back is an area devoid of anything but a table football machine and spots and speakers for the regular live music. Basic décor of red lincrusta and plain cream walls, fairly disinterested staff and customers who appreciate no-frills pubs. Mainly a standard keg beer range from the Tadcaster operation, (John Smiths in various forms, Fosters, Strongbow, Guinness) with a solitary hundpump at one end, the reversed clip was Courage Directors.
