Two separate rooms with their own bars. No real ale of any sort put me off this place.

The Nelson has had a bit of a make over outside and in, it is a bit more pleasant, although it now has pink walls and a new counter with a board and tile top. In spite of the signs outside saying “Full range of Cask Ales” it just sells fairly rank John Smiths Cask, oh it also still sells Caffrey's which I thought had been consigned to the ullage bucket of history long ago. Someone can't spell "Gentlemen" either.

A short walk from the market square. Bar/lounge and function suite. Food served. The pub has a dartboard and was serving john smith's beers.

Two bar pub just outside the town centre, fake half timbered interior and an odd clap board clad bar festooned with racing tickets. Comfortable bench seating and some interesting pictures of old Thirsk otherwise pretty bland. Less than wonderful John Smiths Cask was the only real ale sold, along with the predictable S & N keg line up. Pool table and TV to take your mind off the beer.
