A while since I’ve been in but it’s pretty much as Graham describes.
Main bar with the counter has five pulls, today offering Black Sheep Bitter, Theakstons Best Bitter, Bradfield Farmers, Butcombe Gold and Helmsley Platinum; there are eight solos of nationwide fav’s.
Lots of entertainment with screens, darts, and a pool table. It has pump clip décor at one end by the pool table and horse racing related pictures and memorabilia elsewhere. Beer quality very was good and certainly worth the trot out from the generally rubbish pubs in Thirsk.

A nicely modernised local in an old building in a twee tree-lined suburb of Thirsk. One side for dining, with pool and darts the other, plus a couple of sports TVs. Lots of pump clips on the walls, so it looks as though normal service has been restored. Ales on were Bradfield Farmers Blonde, Lancaster Blonde, Purity Mad Goose, Theakstons Best and Tetleys Original. My only grumble is that a darker beer would have been nice, but otherwise a good pub.

Blue Scrumpy left this review about Crown & Anchor

The Crown & Anchor is located to the south of Thirsk in the adjoining village of Sowerby. It was busy both inside and out on our late Sunday lunchtime visit. Many were dining, but a few were drinking only.

The real ale selection has gone downhill since the last review. Nowadays, they only serve 2 real ales. These were Theakston Best & Ossett Yorkshire Blonde. There is no real cider.

We were amused by the orderly queuing system for the bar, with distances marked out to ensure separation. It has clearly been quite regimented here during the plague.

Otherwise, this is a cosy local that is not really worth the trip out of Thirsk to visit.

Located a short walk from Thirsk town centre. 6 real ales and food served. Live music advertised and the pub has a beer garden at the rear. Well worth the walk from the town centre.

Large, open plan, U shaped room with a mainly splendid choice of ales. One end is a lounge set out for dining, the other is a comfortable bar, modern but in a traditional style with dark wood, mixed furniture and pump clips as object d'art. There is a dart board, games machine and big screen telly with Sky Sports in the bar area. Five handpumps serving John Smiths Cask plus four changing beers mainly from Yorkshire micros, my pint (Acorn) was in really excellent condition, if only I wasn't driving I would of had another. The standard range of kegs found in a lot of Yorkshire pubs will be found here. The other punters were fine and the staff were great. The pub is the only one in the older part of the village of Sowerby, in the main street which is lined with agreeable, and pricey, 18th and 19th century houses. Handy for the auction mart and A19/A168 interchange, if you're in a car, outstandingly better than most Thirsk pubs.
