Clearly an old pub with entrances both on the High Street and off Jerry Croft,It's owned by Greene King who somehow have spoiled the interior with modern, garish furniture and fittings. You can wind around the interior from the central corridor, the sections to the right are rather dark and univiting, while the main tap room has some large banquettes in velour coverings and a raised bar but with a very bright display of keg taps and several of the handpumps double clipped with the ever dull ales served up by Greene King. The low ceilings and some exposed timbers and stonework show the buildings age but it lacks atmosphere and feels corporate. There is little evidence of the hotel metioned in the title.Screens and fruit machine also lower the tone.
The ale choice of GK IPA,Old Speckled Hen,Belhaven 80/- was saved by a decent TT Landlord (NBSS 4) with a 10% CAMRA discount.
There are much better pubs in Skipton with much more interesting ale ranges.I won't bother in future.

A good pub. I thought it was going to be bigger than it is. It does however consist of 2 rooms. The main room to the left houses the bar and here you will find 8 handpumps. A good variety of beers available and the pub was very busy today due to the footy and Saturday market day being on. I didn't check out the room to the right. Its a good pub.

Strangely a first visit to what is said to be Skipton's oldest pub, it's near the top of the High Street. Inside it's an odd shape probably due to wall removal, moving right to left there's a narrow seating area, a corridor, a large bar area with a huge screen, a couple of machines and a nice massive stone fireplace and then finally a raised slim bar area with the counter. Here you find eight pulls, only two from owners Greene King, Black Sheep Bitter, a couple of Moorhouses, and one each from Dent, Daleside and Rudgate. Obviously I went for the Dent but at 3.7% it was thin and unimpressive. There's a garden smoking area at the rear.

Stayed here years ago always call in first time i left with out a drink poor lad behind the bar had to check guest in show them to there room waited a good few minuets a lot of people before me so went. Like a lot of these managed houses cut back on staff and wages poor service it seems that what it is all about now.
Went back at night same lad it was busy football on just him on his own i herd him tell someone he did not have enough hours on his budget to have another staff member on.
It seems to be the same story in a lot of pub but bad service people dont come back

Built in 1205, so it's probably Skipton's oldest pubs. Consists of a large main room and a smaller dining room. The usual GK beers plus two guest on my visit.

Greene King pub located in the centre of Skipton, handily placed for lunch. One large bar serving two rooms: a bar with wooden flooring and a smaller family room/lounge just off the bar area. The service was very friendly and efficient but I thought that the food was fairly expensive for what it was – just traditional pub food but not much veg to accompany the main course.

Beside GK ales, on handpull there were Timothy Taylor Landlord and Everard’s Tiger. GBG 2011 listed.

The Red Lion is a decent looking stone built pub on the market place.
I was a bit dissapointed with this pub as it was a Greene King house so i had to have a drink of GK IPA which was'nt that good.
The pub is fairly smart inside with comfortable seating.

Pub has had a complete makeover in October 2008 It has kept its Country Pub feel but with updates that fit into its situation well worth a visit day or night
