ROB Camra left this review about The Cock & Bottle

Seven years on and this place seems to have gone a little downhill since the last reviews. It struck me as just being a corporate chain pub with a chain pub menu. During our visit it was populated with day trippers, so may not have been the best time to visit. Three beers available, but nothing unusual. My pint was in good nick though and Ms CAMRA liked her wine. It just didn't do it for us and we would probably miss this one out next time we're in Skipton.

A nice traditional old style pub. The pub stretches back and there are two side rooms adjoint the main central room. Low beams to bang your head on on entering. A mixture of bare brick and wood panelling make up the walls. There are 4 handpumps on the bar with Theakstons Bitter, Butcombe Bitter, Moorhouse Pride Of Pendle and HPA on today. A decent pub.

The Cock and Bottle Is a nice traditional town pub wedged in the middle of a terrace of shops. The exterior is whitewashed in a type of Tudor style with beamed windows and an old fashioned style. The decor is similar ion side with hard wood floors and lots of wood panelling. The bar in the middle of the room on the right as you enter with seating to the immediate right and more at the back end of the pub which is raised up the further back you walk. There is also a newer room off to the left that is partitioned to give it a bit of a snug feel but this was decorated in a much more modern style with carpets and a pint job that was completely different to the rest of the pub that I thought didn’t work that well, it would have been much better if it continued the same trend. There was a fairly decent selection of ales available with Monty Pythons Holy grail Ale (£3.40), Butcombe Bitter (£3.50), Skinner’s Dark lord A beer from white horse brewery and a cider (rosies Pig) from the five hand pulls. Not the most adventurous line up in the world but pretty decent, I would have liked to see a few more Local beers but my Butcombe from 200 miles away was in very good shape. I didn’t consider this a top ale house but a very solid pub to go and enjoy some nice beer. I would be happy sitting in the older part of the pub and enjoying some of their well-kept beers but could see myself getting bored here after a couple of hours. A solid 7 but not somewhere to stay all night personally.

Old Boots left this review about The Cock & Bottle

Old timbered interior with partly exposed stone on a split floor level, another long thin pub. 5 pulls of changing guests, including beers from Black Sheep, Theakston,Taylor's, Thwaites, Robinsons. The beer was well kept and it seems quite a popular place, the formerly visible cellar is now enclosed.

Real Ale Ray left this review about The Cock & Bottle

A fine pub steeped in history, this former coaching house is well worth a visit. The unusual feature to the pub is the visible cellar which can be viewed from the windows from both the bar and the street outside. The guest beers are from the Enterprise-SIBA list sourced from from various breweries from around the country. The Wharfbank Pale Ale was excellent. Well behaved dogs are welcome, so I was ok.

I thought the Cock and Bottle was a really nice pub it has been opened out but still has different drinking areas.
There were four real ales on the bar i had a drink of Hambleton Stud which was a decent drink the other beers were Lancaster Blonde, Tetley bitter and a beer from Clarks.
I was quite comfortable in this pub and would happily come back again.
