Will Larter left this review about The Black Horse Inn

Now called the Black Horse Inn, this pub reopened its doors after a four-year closure on Wednesday 20th July 2022. It has been repainted without and refurbished within, with what appears to be fairly ancient wood panelling part-way up the walls. The bar entrance is on the left on entering the building, with the bar counter on the right past the Christmas tree. There are four hand pumps, with two Timothy Taylor beers just having their pump clips changed to festive versions as I arrived, and two beers from local Lamb Brewery, which is behind the Queens Arms in Littondale. My half of Lamb Pale was fine, and I'm glad to see this place open after having found it closed on previous visits to this lovely village.

I was here at a time when the notice beside the pub door suggested that it would be open. The A-board near the church has been left there because it is fixed to a bolt in the ground by a rusty chain and even rustier padlock. There are weeds growing around the A-board that hint at a closure of months rather than weeks. The loss of this pub is a real shame as it looks like it might have an interesting interior and clearly has a place in the village, if only someone would take it on.

Reported closed on WhatPub, and was closed on a weekday evening earlier this month when I went by. There is still an A board outside though, so it may just be that they keep strange opening hours. Worth checking before making a special trip - consider yourselves warned!

Tucked away down a side street adjacent to the local church. This was Richard Whiteley's local, the original presenter of Countdown with Carol Vorderman. This cosy local pub offers great food with generous portions. On tap Tim Taylor Landlord, Golden Best and Bass. Will call again.
