ROB Camra left this review about Dickens

We've been past here many times over the years, but never felt the need to go in. However having booked a meal at a nearby restaurant and being 25 minutes early, we did call in on this occesion. Much better now than the previous reviews would make you think, although it's still not great. They now sell real ale and I had a passable pint of Saltaire Blonde, Ms CAMRA had a fizzy cider. Still two smallish rooms, but the volume was OK and the clientele was more 40 somethings rather than students. May still not call in again though as there are much better pubs within a 100 yards or so.

Old Boots left this review about The Pickwick Inn

A dilapidated bar in a scruffy hotel, no beer to speak of, black decor, and a pool table, so miserable looking I didn't bother going in, a quick look through the big clear windows told me all.

Quite deceiving. It looks like a nice traditional hotel/pub, but often has music blaring so loud you can hear it across the street - especially at weekends. Seems to attract lots of students and twenty-somethings.

The Pickwick Inn is a corner pub situated in the shopping area.
Once inside we went in a smartish room that was fairly comfortable there were two real ales on the bar we had a drink of Youngers No 3 and this was a decent drink the other beer was Youngers IPA.
This was a decent enough pub to have a couple of drinks in.
