The Alma closed for sometime, but has now re-opened as half the size of the pub in the picture. It is a traditional two roomer with lots of Crimean art (Battle of the Alma) a a small room behind with a TV showing rugby. The music was mixed and a decent level. Service was good and a mature clientele arrived while we were in. Four real ales are on; I had a really good Titanic Plum Porter. Enjoyed my stop off here.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Alma Inn
Odd-looking place, with a single-storey extension protruding forward of the building line. Layout comprises two bars and another room, and is pleasingly old-fashioned in terms of furniture and decor. I think I counted a total of 11 handpumps on the two counters, and even with many duplicates there was still a reasonable choice. Opted for a seasonal England's Glory (from Davenports?).

There are a lot more handpumps than there used to be on the bar, but no more beer with everything doubled up except Springhead Surrender. The other beers are pretty boring e.g Theakston Best & XB. We were served by a totally disinterested young barmaid who couldn't wait to get back to her chair next to the fire and resume texting her friends. The pint I had of the Springhead was not quite bad enough to be taken back to the bar, but it was close. It's a bit of a mess at the moment with everything looking somewhat shabby. If ever a pub looked unloved by it's owners then this is it. Go somewhere else not here at the moment.

Not the force it used to be when Malton Ales were regularly on tap here. The Theakstons I had was very average. Definitely on a downhill slide at the moment.

This small unpretentious boozer is just off the main shopping street, and has a couple of guest beers on tap.
