Not a lot changes in this pub, it’s been the same for about 10 years to my knowledge. It might do cask now and again but the salt of the earth type customers obviously prefer their lager and smooth. Older demographic, the pub occasionally gets redecorated but sadly not the punters.

Yes i agree with Elizabeth very clicky if your not local you can spot these sort of pubs goes quiet when you go in no talking for a while all looking at you.
Date of visit 28th of May That made our mind up two halves.

Had 2 nights here - phone booking;no problems. Comfortable clean room and good breakfasts. Not my type of pub, though - rather too "local".

Made a telephone booking here for one night, coincidentally the same day as Ripon races. When we arrived the owner claimed we had not made a booking and told us we must have been mistaken. We weren't mistaken. Really didn't like the attitude of the owner but after having walked through the main room of the pub we were very glad we weren't staying after all.

A white stuccoed building with elegant bow windows. Since the last time I was in here someone has tastefully redecorated in a modernish comfortable style opening out what used to be a shabby drinking den. Beer is also much improved on the dire John Smiths cask previously sold. It was only Black Sheep bitter and it was a tad too cold but still 100% better than the Smiths used to be. Usual lagers etc for those who enjoy. Only the punters haven't had a make over, 3 or 4 old lads in on this visit. TVs in both bars, quiz night Thursday and a disco/karaoke advertised for Friday and Saturday nights.
