This Market Town Taverns pub is still handy for the station, getting several hours head start on the micropub on platform two. It's a handsome building and it looks really smart on the inside too, with what I would guess has been some refurbishing done during Covid lockdown. There are copper-topped tables and smart seating, and the dark green-painted bar counter has a foot rail and hooks, though no stools. There are two sets of three hand pumps, with one naked, another with Boltmaker turned round, and four beers: two from Roosters, one from Ilkley and Titanic Plum Porter. My half of Roosters Little Changes was in very good condition, although not really to my taste - it's got those American hops that only *some* people find garlicky. (It's notable that not only did I pay 35p less for a half here than at the Worlds End, but also that the price for a pint was £3.95 and the half rounded *down* to £1.95, whereas I suspect that my half for £2.30 at the other place was rounded *up* quite a bit.) I was going to rate this pub an 8, as service was friendly and the atmosphere congenial, but I noticed that the fern in a pot on the window sill was plastic, so a 7 it will have to be.

Agree with Real Ale Ray - the trains are every 30 mins.

A bit soulless and identikit inside, it is saved by great beer (TT Boltmaker for me), food and service.

Very handy for the train this one, so we saved it till last. The pub had a good range of eight ales, but unfortunately the beer I wanted had just finished. Nevertheless I did get a very well kept pint of Roosters Yankee and sat out in the patio area out front. The pub is clean and tidy and looks to be well managed, staff were also friendly and pleasant. So don't miss this one out, get the next train.

Opened in 2007 by the ever-reliable Market Town Taverns group, this is a well positioned ale-house situated next to Knaresborough train station. The pub has a multiple room format, but I found it to be remarkably devoid of character, which is a bit unusual for this particular chain. The bar can be found to the right of the main entrance, with a split level layout that sees a small lower space with padded benches and a short stretch of counter. Steps lead up to a larger raised space which has been given a smart, clean look but is a bit lacking in visual distraction, except perhaps for a pump clip collection that makes its way around sections of the walls. There is standard and low stools seating in this part of the room plus a few comfier lounge type options at the far end. To the left of the entrance there is a bare boarded room with plenty of additional seating and good views out to the train station. Elsewhere there is a parquet floored dining room with lots of standard tables and chairs and the occasional potted plant, plus a function room and even a few rooms to spend the night. A fenced off seating area outside the left side of the pub also allows you to watch the trains come and go whilst supping your pint.
What the pub perhaps lacks in terms of character, it more than makes up for in ale range, with the options on this visit comprising Hawkshead Iti NZPA, Okells MPA, Taylors Boltmaker, Brass Castle Hazelnut Mild, Black Sheep Bitter, Rosters Yankee, York Guzzler and West Berks Mr Chubb's Bitter. My NZPA was pretty tasty and in good condition, as you would expect from an MTT house, although the service was slow and a bit surly.
I have definitely been to better MTT pubs before, but I wasn't entirely put-off by the minimalist approach to décor on show here. the beer range is the deserved star of the show here and as such, this has to rank highly when deciding where to drink in town.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Mitre

Modernised, split-level Market Town Taverns bar with a two-part counter. Separate dining room at one end and letting rooms above. Patio beer garden to one side and a narrow terrace along the frontage opposite the railway station. Fine choice from eight handpumps, with York Guzzler being about the most common real ale and rarer offerings such as Brass Castle Nut Mild (£3.22) also available.

Slightly upmarket pub down back street, extremely handy for station. A long bar room on two levels is fairly plainly furnished, with a separate restaurant room to one side and a brasserie at a lower level beyond. Perhaps a bit lacking in character but worth visiting for the very impressive range of ales, mainly from Yorkshire (Cask Marque listed).

This pub has now become a fully fledged member of the Market Town Taverns chain. The pub is on two levels and is quite narrow. There's a separate room to the left of the door as you enter and a brasserie downstairs. We finished off our Knaresborough trip here as it's next door to the station and we were waiting for our Harrogate train. It would be quite easy to miss a train here whilst drinking the well kept range of cask ales on the bar. Friendly and attentive staff on our visit. It's run by the same manager as The Swan On The Stray in Harrogate. Whilst this bar is a little clinical, it's nowhere near as Ikea like as The Swan. It's a good pub and we'll definitely visit again.

Owned by Ian Fozzard, the guy behind the excellent Market Town Taverns but not actually part of the group. Good range of microbrewery beers and some foreign bottles and draughts. Always well kept and extremely drinkable. Thankfully a very short stagger from the station,in fact next to the York bound platform. Elegant old building tastefully but perhaps clinically decorated in modern minimalist style much like the MTT bars. Staff were a bit lackadasical on my last visit.
