Something of a reinvention of a traditional pub, having been opened out into one larger space with remnants of the former layout - but watch out for the change in the floor level! The bar is towards the back and on the left, with Daleside Old Leg Over and Blonde available at the time of our Friday afternoon visit. My half of the first named was in good condition (NBSS 3) and this made a pleasant break from the busy tourist honeypots in the middle of the town.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Last Post

Traditional-looking pub given a semi-modern makeover inside with something of a sports bar feel. Given this, it was perhaps a slight surprise to fond two of three handpumps in use, pouring a pair of Daleside beers: Blonde and Old Legover.

The Last Post is a small single roomed pub with a mix of tiling and parquet on the floor, and standard and high tables throughout. On the rear wall is a fireplace with log burner and televisions were airing Cricket on Sky Sports at quite a volume. I’ve noted that premium and craft keg were available, I also think that there were three hand pumps. Unfortunately, while being schooled in the greatness of the Tour de France I forgot to note what was available and what I drank. Although, I do remember that the service was polite and the only other customer looked like he’d been in a plane crash, apparently his exposed bandaged trotters were from a double foot operation. Worth the short walk from the main drag? Probably not.

Still seems to be enjoying some success judging by our Sunday evening visit. It is trying to be very cool and trendy with its grey and brickwork décor. There's a few plants and things around the pub which may be new. 3 handpumps with a Roosters, an Ossett and White Rat available. Friendly barmaid behind the bar and the clientele wasn't exactly trendy, especially the older guy with a very old dog at the bar. My pint was in good nick and it's a pleasant enough place to while away a half hour. We'll probably call in again at some point.

Old Boots left this review about The Last Post Social House

Rejigged from a seriously tired boozer into a trendy bar with grey walls and exposed brickwork, the space has been changed from an L shape to a square room and the counter pushed back. Refurnished with tubular steel and wood fittings along side plastic chairs although material covered, there's minimal decor with two large screens, the usual filament lights and a parquet floor. Three pulls of changing Yorkshire standards from the likes of Roosters, Saltaire and Ossett plus two multi-font T-bars of national standard kegs. Busy and girl friendly on opening night, its location might be just be too much on the edge for long term success.

Traditional old boozer, somewhat down at heel, only one handpump serving John Smiths Cask plus the usual range of S&N kegs. The cask beer is quite good in spite of its provenance. Dated decor and furniture, the wall colour is a bit ripe, I was strongly reminded of the 1970s. Darts looks to be a big thing here with lots of trophies on display and a well used board in the corner. Older, mainly male customers in this unassuming boozer in contrast to the brasher town centre joints.
