An impressive mock Tudor Victorian hotel overlooking the river, though now not offering accommodation. It’s currently operated by Vintage Inns. The interior has been opened up while much of the original structure has been retained along with architectural features such as brick walls, fireplaces and structural timbers. There is a very pleasant, tidy riverside garden, half of which is non-smoking. Half the food items were off when we visited, and much what we did manage to order was overcooked, fatty and disappointing. The staff were pleasant and friendly, apart from an idiot boy behind the bar who looked like a refugee from the 1980s, but the service was slow and inefficient. Ales on were Doombar, Southwold and Ghost Ship, which were drinkable but not brilliant. Fine for a quick pint, and I’d come to eat at a push, especially given that the other pub in Horning is so inhospitable, but it’s not a venue of choice.

We have visited this pub on several occasions over the past few years. The garden area at the front is next to a wide bend in the river, where you can sit and watch the boats. Adnams Bitter was available, another real ale I did not recognise and an empty pump. Inside it seems a bit dark and drab which is unusual for a Vintage Inn which we like as a pub chain. However, the food should be reliable, and there is accommodation available.

Had a great meal in January 2008, but it seems they have closed the Hotel. The bar and resturant remains...so give it a try
Very warm and friendly reception here
