The freehold of this pub has been sold to new owners, who have spent what must have been a considerable amount of money on completely gutting the place, and the results are good. When I visited it was the weekly quiz night, and tables were reserved. They want it to be a locals pub, and the bar was busy with local trade. There were real ales available. The lady who served me was most friendly and informative, and told me they were trying to get the food focus right. I did not stay long, or take any photos, as due to the layout of the pub, my wife was waiting in the car. I will try to take some this year. Give it a try, as it is different from the normal offerings in the area.

This pub is strange. We thought we would visit it by way of a change from the busy pubs at Coltishall staithe. When we were in the area last year it was shut. It was early evening and there were two customers. We were served by a most pleasant and friendly lady, who I assume from their website was Dawn, the landlady. The pub is on two levels with about 5' between them, including the bar. This means that according to what you order, and where the bar person is at the time, it normally means they have to walk up and/or down stairs. Dawn did admit she has got fit since they took over. It had been shut for essential electrical and plumbing work to be undertaken. It is a shame that when it was shut the outside rendering was not repaired and given a lick of paint. There is a selection of beers including Bass smooth on keg which I have never seen before. The 1" high step hidden by the door of the gents is an interesting surprise! This is probably a good locals pub, and in some ways I do not like giving it a rating of 5 as they seem to be trying hard, but I have to vote as I find.
