Ten years on and the previous review from Ray largely still holds up. A fine stone built building from the outside, internally it benefited from a 2015 make over which gave it a more modern feel but still with separate bar and dining areas both with a decor that reminded me of Buckle and Vaughan type establishments. Then there is a very pleasant garden area out back, firstly a covered courtyard and then an exposed lawn area which runs the length of the car park that occupies the space to the left of the pub.
Unfortunately the difference is that it is now not so strong on the ale front and there are now only three hand pumps that I could see and for my visit the middle one was unbadged and Oakham Citra and Adnams Ghost Ship on the other two. The Citra was a good pint and blessed with a fine west day we took our pints out into the garden to enjoy them
So not really a destination pub to bother strolling out of central Norwich for. But if you are visiting the nearby Catholic Cathedral or the Hidden Plantation Garden and fancy a spot of lunch or a pint in a pleasant pub garden, then this one is fit for purpose

Real Ale Ray left this review about The Black Horse

This is a well run large comfortable pub. The pub consists of three areas, a front area set out for dining, central room with a good sized bar area and a large comfortable lounge to the rear. There was lots of shelving with books and carpeted areas. Also had a large garden to the rear. The pub has a good reputation from the locals. Five ales on handpump, I went for the Crouch Vale Brewers Gold.

The Black Horse is a large brick built pub on a main road. The Long bar is on the left hand side of the pub and has 5 handpumps i had Woodforde's Wherry which was quite a decent drink the other beers were Adnams Broadside,Adnams Explorer,London Pride and Hobgoblin, the pub seems quite comfortable inside but was very quiet mid Saturday afternoon.
