From the Market Square, this pub doesn't look like much. Once through the archway, you enter the pub on the right-hand side. As you enter, the bar is off to the left, with seating off towards the toilets. There is a raised area off to the right with further seating.

Most of the customers here appear to be locals. I tried conversing with one, but only received mono-syllabic replies. I soon gave my attempts up as a bad job. Bar staff were slightly more amenable and I did manage to get a CAMRA discount off them. Potbelly Best Bitter is a regular ale here. In addition, there were 8 guest ales - Tydd Steam Top Cat, Downton Solstice & Oatmeal Stout, Olde England King of East Anglia Raedwald's Gold, Wychwood Dirty Tackle, Timothy Taylor Landlord, Adnams Broadside & Courage Directors. There was no real cider.

Despite not having been to Huntingdon for over 10 years, I'd wager that this is now the best place for a drink in town.

This is more like it.

Set just off the Market Square and accessed through an arch, this old coaching house oozes history. (Oliver Cromwell recruitment station and jail, according to the Good Beer Guide - which it is a 2023 entry).

Low ceiling main room - with roaring fire, tv showing the racing and a long bar with double digit cask on. A lot seemed to be quite conservative Marstons range but there were a few more unusual beers on.

A comfortable pub experience, with friendly staff and regulars.

Only thing - they weren't offering food, despite the GBG sating excellent home cooked food. They did suggest we could bring in food from the market.

Significantly better than the other GBG entry in town.

Well described by BF, below, this superb alehouse is nicely hidden away from the main drag. It’s a bit frayed around the edges, and there were a few people in who had over-indulged, but it was enjoyable nonetheless. Entertainment had been laid on in the form of a small lady throwing her (now presumably ex-)boyfriend against the wall and giving him a stern and somewhat kinetic explanation of his shortcomings. Ales on were Pride, Phipps IPA, Three Castles Corn Dolly, Beijing Black and Best Bitter from Potbelly, Banks’s Amber, Jennings’s Night Vision, Great Oakley’s Wot’s Occurring, Tiffield Thunderbolt and Abbey Stout. We tried them all apart from the Pride and Stout, and had no complaints whatsoever, aided by the late opening hours. This is by far the best ale venue in this town and I shall certainly come here next time I’m in the area

Owned by the same people who have the Black Prince brew pub in Northampton, this is a fine old courtyard boozer with a low ceiling and authentic interior. There is a side room in wood panelling,a wood burner at the end of the tap room,a small fireplace by the bar and a rear section with a raised banquette at the back.Outside there is a rank of benches in the yard.
There are 18 handpumps, three behind a column appear unused and a lot of the others offering ale from the Marstons portfolio. On my trip that meant Wychwood Hobgoblin and Hobgoblin Gold,Banks's Sunbeam,Ringwood 49er ,Old Thumper and Boondoggle together with Marstons EPA.As a result of it's ownership it carried J Church brewed Testament,Old English Charles I and George III and while further guests were Nobby's Monster Mash and well kept Hop Back Summer Lightening ,one of the pricier pints at £3.30 ,with lots less than £3 One pump with a reversed clip. There are sample glasses at each pump to help ale choice.
The food offering was very good value, with lots under £5 and little over £10,with Northampton sourcing of sausages.
It's a friendly real ale boozer with a wide selection ,lots of Locale but nothing at the cutting edge of real ale brewing, but be grateful for small mercies,Huntingdon is not awash with good ale, making this a must visit when in town.

Multi pumped pub with 15 available but a number turned round. Nevertheless a good selection of ales and one to which I would revisit.

The Falcon is set through a gateway on the Market Place. Inside it's a wide room with not much depth and a low ceiling with wooden beams. There is a carpeted area at each end.
The bar has a huge array of hand pumps I counted 18 but may have got it wrong. Of these two or three were unused and there were around half a dozen from the Marston stable. I noticed a couple of beers from Olde England Ales so I went for their Black Prince (£3.30) which was in good nick.
This one is GBG 2017 listed and is well worth a look.

Popped in for a quick pint when I had an hour to kill between journeys. Lots of character, (see pics) nice courtyard area and inside too - dark wood and cosy. Grade II listed. Apparently this was a prime location for Cromwell to recruit to the Roundhead cause. One ale on (TT Landlord) in fair condition. Not sure about one or two of the punters, a bit chavvy for my liking but it was market day I suppose.

Worth seeking out for the heritage factor on a sunny afternoon but it could - and should - be aiming a lot higher. With some effort, this could be a real destination venue.
