Kings Head Hotel, Dereham

Having looked at what this place would be like before my trip to Dereham, it was completely contrary to what I had expected. The word 'Hotel' gave me images of a small hotel bar. Opening times were difficult to find online. Their website is only interested in promoting their rooms and food, their Google entry only gives room availability and their Facebook page states they are "always open". WhatPub was the only realistic source of information, showing that they were open daily 11-11. A quick phone call confirmed they would indeed be open for my Sunday evening visit.

What I found was more of a locals' bar with 5 or 6 locals stood or sat on stools at the bar and another couple in the spacious garden, which featured a very well manicured lawn. Some of those at the bar were eating kebabs.

The real ale choice was Woodforde's Volt & Nelson's Revenge, at least a change from Wherry, but neither appealed. A couple of the locals came up with racist comments, that were quickly shunned by what I assume to be a female owner/landlady/staff member sat amongst the group.

There were other rooms set out for dining and some of the hotel's features looked quite impressive. A strange place and definitely not what I was expecting.
