just suppin.. ..my pint left this review about The Load Of Hay

was a regular of this pub for a few years til bout 3 years ago, went back recently and was surprised at its declined compared to then! it has potential to be a good pub but guess like all pubs it's trying to ride out the recession....fingers crossed it can.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Load Of Hay

Tatty side-street pub near Brunel University, apparently built on the site of the officers’ mess and stables of the Elthorne Light Militia. Narrow bar with a darts alcove on one side and longer, larger room at the back for bar billiards and live music. Side beer garden with interesting rustic furniture and an old grapevine on a trellis. Three of four handpumps were on, with Doom Bar, Bath Ales Forest Hare and Northumberland Strawberry Blonde (£3.30, but in so-so condition) available. All a bit disappointing, given that it continues to get local Camra awards.

Close to Brunel University, this pub looks like it is has been taken over by the students. There was a distinct air of neglect, part of the bar littered with till rolls and used up batteries, the rear carpet in urgent need of the attentions of a hoover and the gents in a desperate state. It really was like visiting a dodgy student flat, everything a little sticky.
The front bar has a lot of brewers tudor ,a gas coal affect fire,a flat screen tuned to Channel 4 (?) and an alcove with a darts board and some empty paint pots.Through the swing doors is the larger carpeted area with a blackboard listing food, sofas, bar billiards and a fault with the heating requiring the services of an electric fire. The real ale is in the front bar with four handpumps serving on my trip Doom Bar,Morland Old Golden Hen,Slaters Original £3.20pp with the fourth unused. My Original was in poor condition and insipid.
There is a quiz every Tuesday and live music on Saturday but the members of the community in on my trip did have problems limiting the profanities. If you retreat to the garden you are in for a real treat,as there are some wonderful benches carved into the shapes of various wild animal.
Sad to see a pub in decline ,especially as this has been a GBG regular but I wouldn't be surprised to see the 2012 entry as being their last.I wont be rushing back.

This is a classic back street pub. From the outside it looks small but inside it goes a long way back with a smaller front bar which has a dart board in a cove and has the look of an old traditional public bar and a larger back bar which seems to look more modern. There were 4 real ales on and a cider on the bar.Outside is a beer garden which is furnished with tables and chairs that are made from wood from Taiwan and imported by the very enthusiastic landlord.Lets hope that pubs like this never disappear.Bus U3 from Uxbridge bus station stops nearby.(10,000 and still going strong if a little slower!)
