It's a pub, Jim, but not as we know it. Much extended riverside venue which is one step above a family dining pub, although mainly catering for same. A modern glass conservatory and other outbuildings have been added, while the table-filled garden disappears off towards the river, which presumably is still there somewhere. The interior is also heavily tabled, with a bar somewhere in the middle dispensing London Pride, Red Fox, Gales HSB and Dark Star Revelation, this being an Asahi - sorry, Fullers pub. Probably better at quieter times but heaving on a Sunday afternoon.

This pub certainly takes advantage of its enviable location right on Teddington Lock and at the end of the footbridge over the river and lock. The garden (if the word covers it) is absolutely enormous and on a fine late June day tables were at a premium. Split into various areas, including "The Beach" as well as table tennis and also a childrens' play area, I have to say it was very well presented, tidy and efficiently managed going so far as to have smoking and non-smoking areas, a genuine plus when so many pubs' outdoor areas are now basically al-fresco smoking sections.
Inside the pub is tidy and has the fresh look of a recent makeover. There are separate small areas such as "The Library" each with an individual style. The aforementioned area has a full wall diamond pigeon hole bookcase with second hand books free for a charity donation. A front area has TV and film memorabilia such as film cans, lighting rigs and stills from the various shows and comedies that were filmed at the former Teddington Studios which stood nearby. An upstairs function room is "The Reel Room". There are a couple of maps of the River Thames on the wall and across a brick chimney breast and an area has wall mounted oars and other boating equipment. I spotted a couple of stuffed fish in cases.
Food is a major part of the operation and a conservatory and a further side area were set for dining however people were mostly eating informally elsewhere and outdoors. The beers were Pride, Dark Star Revelation plus American Pale Ale and Castle Rock Songbird. No sign of any of the other regular Fullers beers on cask. An ok spot especially when the sun is shining.

I drank and worked at The Anglers in 1970-71. In those days, it was more of the "olde English pub" where dogs and their owners parked for a few pints before struggling home. The publicans of the time (Sam & Midge - surname?) told us that there was an ale house on the site going back to Saxon times. Never checked that out. In my time there, the facade of the building was painted yellow and carparking was haphazard. In 1981, I visited the pub once again and it appeared much as it does today. What surprised me at the time was the almost total indifference of the staff to paying customers. Hopefully, that attitude has changed. The pub had taken on a yuppie appearance and lacked atmosphere, however, the beer garden would be sufficient reason to pay a visit on a warm day.

A fine building, probably early Victorian but much extended, now a Fullers tied house with an emphasis on food.Teddington Lock marks the limit of the tidal Thames, and the pubs moorings are on this tidal side ,while most walkers from the Thames Path need to cross the bridge over both the non tidal section above the weir and the tidal piece below. From the bridge you enter straight into a substantial beer garden shaded by high trees.Childrens play equipment is sectioned off.
Inside by the front door is a high ceiling section with large banquettes and a fireplace. The bar runs along a wall most of the length of the original building ,while there is a snug to the side with some kind of book share scheme, the library on display in wooden diamonds frame rather than shelves, quite trendy.A substantial conservatory is now a "wait to be seated" dining area, although you can eat anywhere in the interior. We sloped off to the snug for a few beers, and some light bite dishes which were fine.It has a corporate feel ,not particularly pubby but the location has to be a winner in fine weather. There is an upstairs Coopers Room which I didn't investigate.
The bar has two sets of 4 handpumps ,both duplicating the range which on my trip was Seafarers (fresh),Olivers Island (close to the turn),London Pride and British Pale Ale;a samey range of low ABV ales with none of the interesting real ale that Fullers brew which was a shame .A higher rating would have been awarded if a better range of Fullers ales had been chosen.
OK for a quick beer while waiting for the tide to turn,I couldn't see myself staying here for a long session.

Walking along the thames path and couldn't resist popping into a couple of the nicer looking pubs. This is a great location, at the end of Teddington Lock. Garden, Smoking Area and inside very much geared to food. Decent pint of London Pride. Walk was from Hampton to Kew Bridge and is blogged at http://mappiman.blogspot.co.uk/2015/03/280315-river-runs-through-it-part-1.html

This pub is essentially unchanged from that described by previous posters. When I was in there on Monday lunchtime the outside garden area was really one big kids’ club, and although there must have been 30 to 40 of them outside playing, etc, they were surprisingly quite well behaved. I had a bite to eat on this occasion, and although it’s not classic pub grub, I thought the standard was quite acceptable – the club sandwich was a substantial meal for £7+.
This pub’s enviable location means that it gets desperately crowded on a nice day at the weekend. It was doing a very good trade – mainly froms mums and their offspring – when I wan in on Monday. This is quite a decent pub despite the crowds, and I imagine that I’ll visit again sometime.

Situated round the corner from The Tide End Cottage, is The Anglers, a large family orientated bar and restaurant that has now come under the Fullers umbrella.

In common with The Tide End Cottage, there is a pub sign on each road, Ferry Road and Broom Road but, whereas the main entrance to the former is on Ferry Road, the main entrance to The Anglers is on Broom Road, although there is a back entrance through the pub garden by the end of the pedestrian footbridge over the river.

An attractive Georgian style exterior leads into a deceptively large pub which, following a major refurbishment by Fullers, has a number of different seating areas with contrasting styles and furniture, all serviced from one long bar counter on the right hand side. At the front is an area with an old Bass mirror over a fireplace, but, apart from that, there’s little that is specifically noteworthy or original.

The main bar area leads through to an airy conservatory, which is clearly an extension to the original building. With the tables laid out with place mats and wine glasses, this is clearly a dedicated restaurant area.

Through the conservatory is a massive pub garden, which extends down a long way towards the river bank. There’s an outside BBQ food bar selling various types of burgers and, on the day of my visit, a hog roast was coming on at 2 pm. This outside food bar is in addition to the main menu which is not gastro food, but a clear step up from normal pub grub ( eg – Brixham Crab salad and fries - £ 12.95p, Organic Honey Dew beer battered cod and chips with minted pea puree - £ 9.95p ). In the middle of the garden is a childrens’ play area, the size of which would put many local authority recreation grounds to shame. Unfortunately, the sunny weather had brought out the family trade and something of a chaotic noisy atmosphere was starting to develop, with hyperactive kids screeching and running around in all directions.

In common with many large family orientated establishments, The Anglers is intending to cash in on the Royal Wedding frenzy ( which, for the benefit of those of you who’ve been living in a cave the last six months, is between Prince William and Kate Middleton on 29 April ), and was advertising that, on the big day, there would be a BBQ all weekend, Royal Wedding brunch, Pearly Queen seafood stall, hog roast, face painting, Pimms tent etc.

The full range of Fullers beers was on. The London Pride - £ 3.20p – was pretty good.

There’s the inevitable impersonal feel of a place this size and, in addition, it’s probably best avoided on sunny summer weekends as I gather that service, for both food and drink, can leave much to be desired at those times.

The Anglers is a large pub that is very close to Teddington lock.
There is a long beer garden at the front of the pub which gives good views of the Thames, the pub has got a large conservatory added onto it and once inside the pub had been opened out and had one large room with lots of different drinking areas.
There were two real ales on the bar i had a drink of London Pride and this was a decent drink the other beer was Bombadier.

Pub visited 13/12/2003
