An attractive looking pub, the pub sign claims circa 1610.The Main drinking area is divided into two areas plus a little snug at one end.Black beamed ceiling, half panelled walls the upper half is duck egg green, painted textured wallpaper. The beer choice a little pedestrian for my taste, Courage Best, Hobgoblin Gold and London Pride, I went for the Pride which was a tad hazy but tasted as it should.
Nice enough pub.

I am pleased to say things have improved since the last review and this is now a good, traditional local which seemed pretty popular. A nice old building with beams, still with the leather straps mentioned below, with one main room and a small side room used more for eating. It retains one of those increasingly-rare bars that seem to have more room behind than in front of! Draught beers on offer were Courage Best, London Pride and Spitfire and the food was home made and pretty good. Perhaps rates a seven and a half but will stretch it to an eight as it just felt right as soon as I walked in.

Sounds like a few licensees have been and gone in the last few years. My visit found that some of the previous cosiness has been removed – no curtains and the lack of the previous tasteful sodium lighting were the two things I immediately noticed. Plus points are that the beer range has diversified and the prices have come down (under the old regime it would be £4 a pop by now). Three on - London Pride, Courage Best and West Berks GOB. The Pride was poor and was taken back. The West Berks was in decent but served far too cold. Disappointing.

A lovely building, with a bit of history. The bar is cosy with a low ceiling, plenty of brass and comfiness - a good winter pub. Also leather straps coming from the beams like an old Tube carriage. There’s a garden to the side for the summer months, with a dart board inside the pub. However the beer, which is usually conservative in choice (Youngs Ordinary, Fullers London Pride, Courage Best) is waaaay too expensive for a quite often average pint. Could be essential, but isn't. If they could just nail the beer... Rated 6.

Fairly comfortable old fashioned pub that is a little bit frayed around the edges.Three real ales on with the Fuller's Pride weighing in at a very hefty £3.60 a pint which is way over the top for this area.At prices like this no wonder pubs are closing at the rate they are.
