Trades on its bucolic waterside position (and also its proximity to the rail station). The interior is a stark, stripped-out affair, whitewashed to the point of death. The key is to grab a seat on the terrace overlooking the water. Surprisingly good cask selection and my Barsham Norfolk Topper was in good nick too (NBSS 3.5). Think this one is all about timing things right – a nice pint on a warm summer’s day overlooking the Ouse, pootling boats and trundling trains is a far different proposition to sitting inside a characterless barn under grey clouds six months later I’d imagine.

Handy for the railway station and in a delightful setting on the water, but unlike the previous reviewer I left this one till last, partly because it seemed so busy as I approached. Later, shortly before my 15:18 train, it had quietened down as the lunchers dispersed. This is a substantial building, which has been sympathetically opened out somewhat, with a change of character between the room through which I entered at the side (which has its own section of bar counter), and the main room at the front, looking out over the staithe. Here the bar counter has been constructed in the shape of a large rowing boat, or cutter. More importantly, it features four hand pumps with three real ales on at the time of my visit, two from Milton and one from Barsham. I went for the Milton Pegasus, which was in very good condition. I had carefully planned my trains to give me time for a quick crawl around the city, but if you only have time for one pub, there can be no doubt this is the one.

This was our first port of call, coming from the train station. We popped in here just before noon on a Sunday and hideous loud pop music was blurring out in the bar. Luckily enough there is seating outside, looking over the Great Ouse. Four ales on handpump, Exmoor Silver Bullet, Adnams Broadside, Doombar and Woodfordes Wherry. So being so close to Norfolk we went for the Wherry, which was a good choice. The pub interior consisted of a fair L shaped lounge and bar area and a restaurant area at the far end.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Cutter Inn
Fine riverside location, with a narrow terrace overlooking the passing boats (but with a very inconvenient handrail partially obstructing the view). Main bar with separate dining area, plus the Captains Lounge for groups (not visited). Surprisingly basic furniture and decor. Three of four handpumps on, with Doom Bar, Summer Lightning and Wherry (£3.45) available. Overall, I found it a bit soul-less, but it is OK as a place to stop between the railway station and 'city' centre. (NB - Review dates from August 2012.)

The Cutter Inn is in a perfect location next to the river and it looks very nice from the outside.
There were a couple of rooms inside and the bar seemed fairly basic but we sat outside to watch the boats and trains go by but this seating area was a bit cramped.
This pub is a Greene king tied house and there were three real ales on the bar we had a drink of GK IPA this was ok but nothing special the other beers were Abbot and Old Speckled Hen.
This is a nice pub to visit in the summer but probably not worth the walk down in winter.
