Adnam’s Bitter and St Austell Tribute were the ales on here. There’s no sign of any menus, but there was a classically traditional pile of clingfilm covered rolls on the bar counter, and they did produce a coffee for Mrs R. This pub has one main room which contains the central horseshoe bar, banquette seating and normal tables and chairs. Wall decor is almost exclusively brewery mirrors, which didn’t look out of place in the slightest. There’s another small room at the back on the right containing two or three tables, a few small stools and a couple of small sofas. We sat in here, and I have to confess that I felt a bit anti-social as we were the only people in here, whereas everyone else (mainly local regulars as far as I could tell) were in the main room. This smaller room leads to a small garden at the front of the building containing a handful of picnic benches. Inevitably there was some music being played, but the choice here was better than in most pubs, being The Beatles and Rod Stewart.
But the nicest thing about this pub for me was when the guv’nor emerged from the kitchen area bearing a couple of bowls for Mrs R and I containing some delicious seafood pasta. Apparently the occasional free afternoon “tapas” is a regular feature. Now that sort of generous gesture really does endear me to a pub, which is I suppose the hoped for result. Undoubtedly this is a friendly, welcoming and traditional pub. It’s been closed in its recent past, but the guv’nor in this pub is clearly doing his utmost to make it a going concern. I really hope that he is successful as we can’t afford to lose any more of these traditional pubs. If you’re into gastropubs then steer well clear of this place, but if you enjoy a real pub then visit this one.

A pub that has seen better days, attested to by the dusty pump clip gravestones of the real ale they no longer serve hooked across the top of the bar. The interior is decorated in a mustard colour theme (nice) and there's a bar at the rear, and beer garden at the side. TV vs jukebox death match on the weekday evening when I was there, along with two other customers. Oh dear. Pub boasts cricket and darts teams (really? with two customers?), plus a charity book exchange. Very weak pub.
