I wasn't expecting much in the way of an ale selection from a Greene King pub, but we were pleasantly surprised to see both Timothy Taylor Landlord and Skinner's Betty Stogs available, as well as GK IPA of course, plus Pied Bull Bitter, which is also brewed by GK of course. I didn't get to look at the menu, but food is clearly a big player here, as evidenced by the dining room added to the rear of the pub.

The exterior of the pub is very attractive, with plenty of hanging baskets on display, and a large patio area at the front with a good number of picnic benches. As well as the dining room at the back, there are several other drinking areas, with sufficient seating for those just wanting to drink. It looks as if the original pub has been expanded into adjoining buildings, plus there's a relatively new build entranceway at the front. We were very happy to have a decent pint of Betty Stogs in here. This is another pub in an area which I very rarely visit, but if I lived nearby I would certainly visit this one again.

Good country-style pub now geared up for diners rather than drinkers (shame). The beers are well kept standard Greene King offerings but the Abbot was spot-on. Didn't eat, but the overpriced menu still looks fairly standard with nothing exciting. Now quite average and nowhere near as good as it once was.

Good review from Steve of N21 below, still current.Greene King tie means unexciting ale in this gastro pub and food is pricey for the area, resulting in diners being thin on the ground and leading to slow food service, hoping you will buy another drink while you wait.Having eaten here a few times ,there is now a noticeable lowering of the food ingredient quality, probably to save money in a move that in my opinion has backfired.Shame as the interior is classy but I fear the Pied Bull's business model isnt really working.

The Pied Bull is under new management has been given great a "facelift".
This charming historical pub has gone through a fabulous transformation. Comfortable and esthetically pleasing décor, with modern features and yet in keeping with the building’s old charm.
The dinner service was great, the food (sirloin steaks) were simply superb! The blond girl serving us was very helpful, unfortunately can’t remember her name… Other people in the dining area seemed to be having a great time as well.
My husband and I will surely recommend this pub to our friends, anyone local should give it a go – I doubt you will be disappointed.
p.s. there is a huge car park at the back and a lovely garden area.

The Pied Bull used to have the character of a rustic country village pub, but in the town, . Slightly worn in feel, but low ceiling and even lower beams that were a complete danger to anyone over 5ft 10''.
Now has just reopened after being shut for a couple of months for a major refurb.
It remains ostensibly a one bar pub with a conservatory at the back and very pleasant benched outside drinking areas to the front by the roadside and to the back on a raised concrete patio area.
The dark wood interior and old style carpet has been replaced by a much more modern lighter wood effect décor, and from what I can make out much of the money has been spent on lowering the floor in the bar area by a good few inches , so that a normal height bloke can approach and stand at the bar area without clocking your head on the beam ceiling.
Nearly all the seating is now laid out for dining and it now has more the feel of a restaurant than a pub.
It's a Greene King house and had the usual range of IPA, Abbot and Speckled Hen including a GK stable guest of a Ruddles seasonal ale. Unfortunately the Ruddles pint I was poured was the end of the barrel, but this was quickly replaced with a Speckled Hen which was fine and the pump clip turned around on the Ruddles.
The menu is not extensive and a bit pricey compared to my remembrances of the previous food offering .
Now I'm sure that there are those that are not fans of the traditional, and are going to like this new sterile modern overhaul.
But I just felt the makeover has largely now lost any character and The Pied Bull is just the same as, and with nothing to distinguish it from, many other modern décor pub/restaurants you now find in abundance.
But is is still a nice place for an outside beer when the sun shines though and I thoroughly recommend it for that.
