The Old Sergeant looks to be no more when I went past over the weekend.
Currently boarded up and surrounded by fencing, and with the large plot next door now bulldosed as well, looks like it will go for more housing as well.
For me it will be missed as a bit of Enfield history but will not be one that will me mourned as a loss to the Enfield drinking scene, certainly not in the way us locals still miss The Enfield Arms.

A change of manager has improved the pub . There are less do's and dont signs that were a hallmark of the last manageress. Music on a Friday night of varying quality. Very much a locals local. The clientelle look a lot worse than they are and dont bite !

There has been a pub on this site since at least 1726 but the present building dates from the mid-19th century. The single storey extension at the left of the pub was originally a separate shop. Today it's a real "local pub, for local people" in the best tradition of Royston Vasey. I wasn't as brave as the last reviewer, I walked in, took one look at the various low-lifes staring at me, turned around and walked out. My overall impression - evil lurks!

I got a bit of a frosty reception upon entering so I decided to have a half of Guinness and make my visit brief. The landlady served me a pint knowing full well that I had asked for a half, but I didn't complain as it only cost £2.25 and I found her to be slightly menacing.

There are three hand pumps, but two were out of use as Courage Best was the only available ale.

I spotted a pool table and there were a couple of old hells angel look-a-likes playing some decent live music last Saturday.

I felt a little on edge in here which is unusual for me, especially in a proper boozer – I'll be avoiding in the future as I shouldn't have to win the trust of the locals before enjoying a pint of beer.
