Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The British Volunteer

Fairly basic Shepherd Neame house which was re-painted externally a few years ago but which has now been refurbished inside too. Dark modern furniture and mauve / cream walls in the split-level main bar area. Small rear room with a pool table. A few patio tables in the courtyard area out back. One of the two handpumps was working, offering a decent pint of SN IPA (£3.00).

Steve C left this review about The British Volunteer

To the left of the entrance of the British Volunteer is a dartboard and four steps lead up to the L shaped bar area where a couple of locals were sitting last Friday night. I had to wait for a minute at the bar, which I didn’t mind as I got to note that this Shepherd Neame pub stocks their usual draught along with Guinness and Strongbow. There are also two hand pumps, but one of these was unused leaving Master Brew as the sole ale option. The woman working behind the bar was polite when she did turn up, but I didn’t feel welcome at all.
At the rear is a room with a pool table and I didn’t note any televisions, but Sky Sports is advertised so there must be at least one. The music was old skool which didn’t really set the scene.
This pub opens at 17:00 Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

I don’t think that I’ll be making the effort to walk out of town to visit here anytime soon.
