It's in a fairly horrid 1960s sort of building, but there is actually a reasonable community local inside. There are numerous TV screens of various sizes for the sport, a games room at the rear with pool and darts and a beer garden behind. Entertainments include monthly live music or karaoke and weekly quiz nights. I can't say the dark grey/green decor and tartan carpet does a lot for me but it is all smart and tidy and feels well run. A Fuller's pub, with 2 sets of 3 handpumps but just Pride on at present, though in pretty good nick. Beavertown Neck Oil also available but otherwise fairly standard keg stuff (note - no Asahi!).

Oh, one other thing...that may interest you. (Or it may not...) The ASH TREE have some sort of 'loyalty' card system, buy a certain amount of drinks and get one free, or something like that! I'm not exactly sure, because there was NO staff available to tell me about their scheme! Maybe YOU know what it is and how it works..?! :o(

I popped in the ASH TREE the other day to watch a football game, on their large "fuzzy" TV screen! The place was quite busy for mid-week, there must have been 50 people in the pub (mainly men, watching the footy!) - BUT, there was only ONE very young person serving behind the bar (...doing a very good job, in the circumstances...but you need MORE than one person serving when it's that busy)! Management to note. Actually, the manager was there...on the other side of the bar drinking+chatting with locals. Didn't seem to notice any particular problem. I waited about 7 minutes for my first pint, okay I was being entertained by the fuzzy football game, but another time or place and I would have walked out. When it came to a second pint...I couldn't wait any longer than 5 minutes...! I went to another pub, not far away (Kings Head) and got served instantly. There's a lesson there somewhere. But I don't expect the manager of the ASH TREE will spot it. Unless they've heard of "Pubsgalore.co.uk" :o) I'm down-rating to 3/10

ASH TREE - which in days gone by, used to be affectionately known as the 'Ash Tray' or even the 'Hash Tree'...! But its smokin' days are over. The Ash Tree is no longer smokin'...! A good pub to watch the 'footy' in, possibly. Sometimes a bit 'cramped' in there when I visit, I don't know why they don't "reclaim" the side of the building with the Thai restaurant attached, that would maybe double the size of the pub, and encourage more clientele. (Unless of course you know 'why' they don't do that)! :o)

Not a bad Fuller's pub in a modern (read ugly) though light building with a standard Fullers ale range (Pride, ESB and Chiswick) which were served very well. Landlord said that most seasonal ales don't sell here; but does he try to promote them? Other features include a pool table and Thai kitchen. Yet some basic faults: Sports TV/jukebox volume death match, shabby interior needing a lick of paint, toilets smelling of stale wee. I would certainly recommend it for the quality of the beer, but this place could and should do better as a whole.
