The Boars Head is believed to be one of the oldest pubs in St Helens possibly dating back to the 17th Century. Punch Taverns closed the pub in May 2015 and was due to be demolished with a large food store to take it's place until Bravo Inns stepped in to save it from the bulldozer.
The pub has had quite a smart refurbishment and is certainly not short of reading material with an excess of book shelves.There were 3 cask pumps on the bar (2 operational)on my Tuesday visit and sampled a pint of Doom Bar at £1.99p which the friendly barman kindly brought over to my table whose cajolery later persuaded me into buying another one.Enjoyed my stay here and will call in again if in the area. On leaving the pub I was amazed that none of the locals knew where the nearest bus stop was back to St Helens which I did find about 150 yards away.

Pub is now owned by Bravo Inns. Also has had a full refurbishment. Cask Ale is now served in the pub
