I love pubs like this, I must have reduced the average age considerably when i walked in. the oldies of Southport love this place because it's everything a pub should aspire to in its multi roomed, traditional splendour. my beer was off but i'll forgive them, I'm sure it's usually fine as everyone else was drinking the stuff. will spend a bit longer here next time i'm in southport.

ROB Camra left this review about The Guest House

A very attractive pub from the outside which is complemented by a fine interior. 3 separate rooms all with wood panelling. It was pretty quiet during our Tuesday evening visit, but still had a pleasant atmosphere. 10 beers available on the bar, although not the most inventive of selections, with Greene King and Adnams featuring. My pint was in excellent nick though and we enjoyed our visit here.

Old Boots left this review about The Guest House

An extremely nice Art Nouveau/Arts & Crafts styled pub with multiple rooms and spaces as well as a range of decently kept local ales, not far off Lord Street but very unbar-like, a proper pub. Lots of woodwork and stained glass, my favourite on a short day out in Southport.

A good traditional pub. Very attractive interior as noted elsewhere. Real ales available and depending on the bar staff at the time a taster is allowed.

This traditional three roomed pub is well worth a visit. The main entrance has the original oak parquet floor. To the right, is the main bar facing you with black and terracotta floor tiles, with a medium sized room in front of this. To the left of the entrance, there was an oak panelled room and another lounge area on the left-hand side of the bar to the rear. I also noticed some lincrusta wallpaper around the entrance, the bar servery had both a brass handrail and footrest. There were Arts and Crafts style stained glass screens along the top of the servery.
Ten ales on handpump on this visit, we went for the Copper Dragon Golden Pippin. We asked for a taste of one of the other ales and were told the manager doesn't give out samples. Wow! that's a first for us. They also served food and they were busy dishing out pie and chips at £3.50 a go.

An old fashioned pub with separate rooms for enjoying the constantly changing choice of many guest beers. This is one of the few places where you can enjoy the locally produced Sandgrounder Brews (a Southport local is called a Sandgrounder). The staff are really helpful and you can sample the guest beer before you buy. Although parking is a bit difficult it's worth the journey to get there. The landlord (Fred Hook) is one of those people who was born to run a pub; this is the latest establishment he has brought to the top in customer satisfaction in his long career as a landlord. Well worth a visit; local CAMRA are regular visitors. I am NOT a CAMRA member, I just know a good pub when I go there.
