A somewhat dated Georgian hotel with a public bar and restaurant, plus a subterranean function room and some conference rooms. It was obviously rather grand in days-gone-by, but it has lost that kudos now. The accommodation is battered and in need of refurbishment, the staff are generally unhelpful and arrogant, except the one nice Eastern European girl who at least makes an effort. There is a car park at the back whose charge is extortionate. The bar is reasonably comfortable, but it has no real ale and the wine selection is rather poor. There was a bank of 6 keg beers on, but nothing worth writing home about. The food is quite good but not cheap. It might be OK to come to for a function but it’s not somewhere I should choose to stay again and the bar isn’t worth making a special effort for.
