E TA left this review about Panton Arms

A backstreet GK pub on the site of the old Bailey & Tebbutt Brewery, whose name can still be seen in the wrought iron gates to the cobbled yard at the side. This yard is what passes for a garden here – a fairly large space occupied by tables, chairs and a marquee. The pub has retained its two original bars, though the entrance is now at the side through what was the old lounge bar, now a basically furnished room with wooden tables and chairs. The former public bar at the front is more of a saloon, with comfortable seating and a noisy sound system. The customers are mainly students, and most of them foreign. The staff were unhelpul, unwilling to interact with anyone who wasn’t their own (very young) age group, rude and unable to pull a full pint at the first attempt. Ales on were Black Sheep Best Bitter, Hook Norton’s Greedy Goose, GK IPA and Oakham’s Scarlet Macaw, all in reasonable condition. Food looked fairly unappetising but it was reasonably cheap. Despite the reasonable beer, the atmosphere and indolence mean I shan’t be back.

Greene King bar and restaurant. With quite a plain basic interior. 4 real ales.
