A dive and the beer's crap. A single long room, bare floors, basic decor. Avoid.

Long roomed bar, with on the right the bar, on the left as you go in a very minute stage (where at a pinch the Cheeky Girls could possibly squeeze on) and facing you if you look up Durty nellie's life story.I found the locals friendly enough and although no cask ale the couple of pints of Chestnut mild I had went down a treat.

An extraordinary pub, looking like a basic corner pub decorated to third world standards, it is a long thin bare place that was originally two rooms, however the front section has an amazing barrel vaulted ceiling in need of TLC. The room retains original tongue and groove, albeit scuffed and brown especially on the bar counter and barback. The furniture is a fine miscellaneous collection dating from the 1930s to the 1970s. On the back wall of the front room is a huge mural telling the story of Durty Nellie herself. The rear section is more recently decorated and lacks the charm of the front part, it houses the pool table and lacks the tiny stage and broken equipment, juke box etc also found in the front. The customers are an exhuberant, noisy lot of all ages. All keg beers of course but there is a superb but unused set of three handpumps at one end of the counter. If this area ever gets gentrified this pub could become quite a place but would probably lose its vigour and earthy charm in the process.
