Steve C left this review about The Woodthorpe

The Woodthorpe is one of Holt’s flagship pubs and is the former late 19th Century family home of Sir Edward Holt. The function room / private bar at the rear of the pub is called the Sir Edward Holt Bar. This is a functioning hotel with three en-suite rooms upstairs. To be honest, it was so quiet when I visited on Tuesday evening that I assumed all the others customers were hotel guests. The traditional décor is in standing with the grand home that it once was. There are a few seating areas, including the comfortable drawing room found at the far end of the bar. This long main bar supports six hand pumps that were drawing 3x Bitter and 3x Two Hoots. A poor selection for the flagship pub! The usual Holts keg is also available, as is a food menu that I didn’t see (I think the kitchen may have closed before my arrival). Televisions are located throughout, but they were off whilst Liverpool were playing a Champions League game, which I found a little odd.
The pub is set back from the main road by a lawn that slopes up to a patio area outside the front of the pub. A driveway leads up to a car park to the right of the pub that is overlooked by a second patio area. A-boards are strewn everywhere advertising meal deals, room hire and live football.
The surroundings are pleasant so this place is definitely worth a look, but I couldn’t stay for more than a couple.
