A multi-roomed boozer and a friendly place on my afternoon visit. A pool table to the rear and if you continue past it there is a small beer yard. The other rooms were pretty basic. No real ale but I enjoyed my short stay here. Had a friendly French Bulldog roaming around.

This has got to be the scruffiest, dirtiest and most untidy pub I've been in for years. There's bits of tat in every corner. A couple of kids bikes, some cardboard boxes, a black bin liner etc. Both the rooms were the same. There's a concrete smokers area at the back that was covered in dimps and a large binbag full of them in the middle. The young, but rather large woman behind the bar was making excuses why she hadn't done something by saying she just didn't have the time. She then leaned against the bar and started texting. I made the mistake of going to the toilets, absolutely disgusting, didn't look like they'd been cleaned in weeks. To add insult to injury I had a half of Fosters and was charged £1.55, the most expensive half I'd had all day in the worst pub of the day. Just don't.

Alan Winfield left this review about The Ship Canal

The Ship Canal is a short walk down barton lane from the Royal Oak.
The pub looked decent enough from the outside and once inside it had two rooms that we noticed and these were smart enough,we had a drin in the lounge and this was a nice comfortable room to have drink in.
When we visited this pub it was a Wilsons tied house and there were two real ales on the bar we had a drink of Wilsons bitter and this was a fairly nice drink the other beer was Wilsons mild.
