This appears to be a well used community local, to judge by the people I saw here at the time of my tea time visit on a Thursday. The original building has been augmented by an extension to the left which is bigger than it seems from the outside, having an almost barn-like feel to it. The bar has eight hand pumps, seven beers from Milton brewery plus a guest. I went for their Justinian, the first time I think I have had this beer, and I was impressed (NBSS 4). This pub is in the Good Beer Guide, like its stable mate the Queen Edith on the opposite side of the city, but with both being a bit of a journey, and much the same range of beers being available in these two and the Devonshire Arms (also GBG) in the centre, it's quite an easy decision for those with only one day in Cambridge.

This pub is in Chesterton, I'm not sure if that is a suburb of Cambridge or a separate place. Whichever it is the Citi 2 bus from the centre of Cambridge bought me virtually to the door of the pub.
Inside it's a wooden floored single room that was obviously once split into at least two. There are old fashioned wooden benches around the walls with bare wooden tables. This is a Milton brewery pub so of the eight pumps on the bar five were from them including a 7.5% one which caught my eye. The three guests were Crouch Vale Happy Santa, Star Brewery Meteor and Colchester Barbarian. I went for the Milton Medusa (£3.20) which was described as a strong dark mild and was in very good condition.
I quite liked this pub as it was a lot more relaxed than the more central ones in Cambridge and would definitely return.
