Steve C left this review about Lord Nelson

Set back from the main road by a car park and found behind patio seating the Lord Nelson is a large pub with low beams and lots of wood paneling. The bar counter runs across the rear wall and there are rows of seating to the left faced by a stone fireplace that sits on the front wall. More seating is found to the right where I had to stoop under the beams, so I imagine this is the original 300 year section of the old. I noted that the pub has some age, but the décor is quite modern so there is no oldie worldie character. With the seating in the right-hand side is a dartboard and a DJ rig with ‘country folk favourites’ advertised for every Friday and Saturday night. During my recent Tuesday evening visit there was some background music playing, it wasn’t folk and I didn’t hear anything that would make it onto my play list. The service was polite, but only standard keg and Madri were available on draught. This isn’t a destination pub, unless of course one is into folk.

Open 17/6/16. A pub with low beams and ceiling. 3 unused handpumps on the bar. Multi-areas to sit in with the one at the far left having selected lyrics from Sinatra, Martin and an Irish song plastered on the wall. Its a nice enough place but a bugger of a place to get to if you're on the wrong side of the main road which its on.

Originally a multi roomed pub, the areas are now still separated, but by partitions. It's a very old pub (circa 300 years) and has a very low ceiling. There's some good quality tables and chairs along with some comfy, covered bench seating. Lots of music lyrics written around the walls and the pub was advertising live music on Friday & Saturday. The whole of the right hand side is devoted to dining, but as it was outside service times during my visit, this area was empty. The left hand side has a big screen TV and a dartboard. There are 3 handpumps on the bar and all 3 had Doom Bar clips on them which looked stupid. My pint was OK (for Doom Bar) but was served very cold. It's a very nice, good looking pub, but it would take more than Doom Bar to make me revisit.

The Lord Nelson is set well back from the busy hyde road and it is towards the eastern end of it.
The pub looks fairly old from the outside with a more recent addition to its left side, once inside the pub was very nice and the room i had a drink in was very comfortable and had a cosy feel to it,there may have been other rooms but i did'nt look.
When i visited this pub it was a Wilsons tied house and there were two real ales on the bar i had a drink of Wilsons bitter and this was a very nice drink the other beer was Wilsons mild.
