Was watching Youtube after an Eccles pub crawl, when I visited this pub. The classic Paul Calf sketch "shoe shine boy" was filmed here. What are the chances. Worth a search, if only to see what the pub looks like when busy!

It was empty on my visit on a Friday night - which was disappointing.

An interior of historical importance, it is multiroomed - with a central "lobby", where the bar is available from an open front and a smaller hatch to the sign.

I walked into a TV room and walked back out when Wings were on the music channel.

Into a large function room - with leather bench seating around the sides and tables in the centre.

As you would expect with no punters.... no athmosphere.

Holts in good condition, worthy of the GBG2023 entry. £3.15

I had a fleeting visit to the Lamb Hotel on a Tuesday evening in September last year just before last orders were called at 22:00 due to social distancing restrictions. Although my visit was late and the pub was empty I still found the service to be very friendly. The right hand side bar was closed so I purchased a pint of Holts from the lobby side that adjoins a large banquette seating room to the front left and a smaller room behind. I’m a big fan of these historic pubs so will be sure to return for a better look when next in the area.

If you're into pubs with Historic Interiors, then this pub really ticked all the boxes. Two of the most spectacular and impressive features in here was the lobby with it's screenwork in the front servery and the magnificently preserved billiard room, with leather banquette seating. The pub also retains the bell push buttons above the seats in the main lounge and a host of Art Nouveau wall and mosaic floor tiling. Four handpumps serving Holts Brewery beers and all fairly priced.

As noted below this is an unspoilt old pub, well almost unspoilt as it has TVs which thankfully were turned off. As you enter there is a small proper public bar on the right while the other bar area has two larger more comfortable rooms off it to the left. I didn't spot the billiard room, I assume the door to it may have been closed.
I went in the public bar where two hand pumps had Holt's Mild and Doom Bore. The two on the other side had Holt's Bitter. I went for the Mild (£2.22) which I'm not sure was 100% but it's so many years since I last tried this beer I may have got that completely wrong.
This is GBG 2017 listed and is certainly worth a look.

A really nice pub. The description by Mr Camra is still relevant today. This is a proper pub. I liked it.

This pub is an absolute gem. I worked nearby in the 1990's and used to visit quite a bit. I was overjoyed to find that, not only had it not been ruined, but that Holts have spent quite a bit on restoring some of the faded bits. It's a large Edwardian red bricked edifice. There are 2 large lounges, a vault and a billiards room with a full size table. Mahogany woodwork all around including the fireplaces. Great tiling and some fine etched glass along with some snob screens makes it feel very grand. Efficient and friendly bar staff add to the positive experience. I bought a pint of Holts Mild for only a little over £2 and went to sit in one of the lounges. A real mix of people in the place on a Friday, early evening. There were probably about 20 in, but it always looks empty as it's so big. Whilst I quite like Holts Bitter & Mild, I prefer a larger selection than just the two, so after my mild I had a quick half of the bitter and moved on. It's a fine pub and long may it continue to be so.

Occupying a prominent main road position virtually opposite the Eccles Metrolink terminus is The Lamb Hotel, an impressive red brick Grade 2 listed building dating back to 1906. It’s supposedly the jewel in the crown of Holt’s Edwardian drinking palaces.

As we enter the pub, we see a superb curved mahogany bar on the right, retaining some drop down glass screens. Note also the half height Art Nouveau glazed green tilework on the walls.

A large central drinking lobby leads to a total of 4 rooms, of which the most notable is the Billiards Room ( note the etched glass in the door ) with a full size table which is apparently the original table from when the pub opened in 1906. Here there is raised seating to enable spectators to view the action without getting neck ache.

Rooms are comfortably furnished with fixed padded seating, circular tables, bar stools and original bell pushes. Only the small front bar on the right appears significantly altered.

The pub retains much original etched glasswork denoting for example “Bar Parlour”, “Gents Lavatory” and “Ladies Lavatory” for example. There’s also several windows denoting “Lamb Hotel”.

The pub is listed in CAMRA’s National Inventory of Historic Pub Interiors.

Based on my infrequent visits over the years, this is very much a locals pub and one that appeals to the more mature customer. Sadly, on my most recent late evening visit, apart from several customers watching the Sunderland v Everton Cup Replay, the pub was virtually empty.

It’s a Holts pub with the usual cheap bittery beer that we have come to expect. The Bitter at £ 2.14p was in good form. The Mild was also on. The pub is a CAMRA Good Beer Guide regular.

To get here, it’s approx 25 minutes on the Metrolink from Piccadilly Gardens. The route goes through Salford Quays, Manchester’s answer to London Docklands. It’s a trip that I enjoy making and hope to do again when I’m next in Manchester.

Do try and make the time to get to this gem

A top notch traditional Joseph Holt pub housed in a prime location for the shops, trams and other close by ale houses. On entering on the right across from the wooded bar is a rectangular shaped open area that was quite full for for a Monday morning.Just past the bar on the right is a splendid large snooker room complete with full size table, and the impressive leather seating which covers the entire room.Check out the elaborately decorative green tiles on the interior walls.Good pub this definitely wants a viewing.

Fantastic pub and easy to get to, near the tram, bus and train stops in Eccles just 20-30 minutes from Manchester. Old Holts multi-roomed pub that has a nice look and feel to it. There's the public bar, all bench seating, wobbly tables and betting slips on the bar. Then there are two comfortable and well decorated lounges and an incredible snooker room with spectator seating around the table. Full range of Holts draught and bottled beers. I recommend a visit

This pub serves Holt's as I recall and was also used in Steve Coogan's Paul Calf TV series.
