Blue Scrumpy left this review about The Fox

The Fox is one of three pubs in the attractive village of Burwell. Opening times are not well publicised. As with many local places these days, you can look up times on the internet and assume they are correct and arrive to find a piece of paper with the correct times pinned to the door/window, as happened to me here.

I initially arrived at lunchtime and found that opening time is now 4pm during the week. So, I re-planned my visit to make this pub the last of the night.

Arriving back in darkness, the car park at the rear was much busier with the adjacent Bengal Fox Indian restaurant and a take-away food van seemingly doing good business.

Outside the Fox is a huge marquee, which has obviously had good use in the efforts to keep Covid from the populace. It was fairly busy given it was a weekday evening.

Inside, it is a fairly modern and disappointing affair. Greene King IPA is the regular beer. Timothy Taylor Landlord was the guest. However, my advance research had discovered that there had been a cider festival here a couple of weeks earlier. So, armed with this knowledge, I asked the guy behind the bar (who it seems was actually a rather young landlord) if they had any left over. He started to list a few off the top of his head, which I then tried to remember!

There were at least 2 I hadn't tried. The list I recall was Simon's Sweet 'P', Discovery & East Meets West, Abrahall's Slack Alice & Ruby Tuesday & Lilley's Bee Sting, Gladiator, Crazy Goat & Strawberry Cider. I opted for the Sweet 'P', which rounded my day in Cambridgeshire off nicely.

The clientele here were much younger than I would have anticipated. It felt like a youth club at times. Although there were a handful of others of my age.

As a pub, I didn't quite take to this place. I'm sure the other two pubs in the village are quieter and cosier than this. But I can't argue with the range of ciders they had. Although, this seemed to be a bit of a fluke, following a chance festival. It did leave me wondering how they will dispense of them all, if they are not promoting them.
