Moby Duck left this review about Crown & Anchor

Traditional looking corner pub, the L shaped interior has been opened out and modernised a little, not to the pubs benefit in my opinion. The pub seems to lean toward the cheap pub grub side of things, and the beers are also a bit on the pedestrian side, four beers on from five handles, these were Doom Bar,Moorhouse White Witch, Landlord and Robinsons Trooper. Its pretty average stuff and I would likely bypass this if I happened to be in the area again.

A brilliant looking Victorian corner pub the exterior of which is dominated by its red glazed tiling. It has a few outside seats. The interior has been smashed up a lot and is simply an L-shaped room around the bar with a second area that has a pool table at least. Brick and a black sponge effect is the main decor, with a wood floor. A few pictures add interest. They do food. TVs on, silently and soft music played. Service was fine and a couple of people were in. Only two of several pumps were in action, with Doombar and an OK Tim Taylor Landlord. OK for a swifty.

A lovely looking exterior belies a modern interior. While the interior is a bit of a let down its is a good friendly pub with several real ales to choose from.

The Crown and Anchor is an L shaped pub with a modernised interior hidden behind a more traditional exterior. The bar is stocked with standard draught, Peroni and Kozel. There are also six hand pumps that were drawing Landlord, Deuchars, Spitfire and Black Sheep alongside Robinsons Dizzy Blonde and Trooper.
There is a pool room at the rear and a plasma screen at either end of the bar. During my recent Thursday afternoon visit these were both showing muted terrestrial television while some background music played.

This is a decent enough place that I would pop back into if passing.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Crown & Anchor

Refurbished bar, looking much more modern inside than the traditional exterior would suggest. The silver wallpaper and friezes under the bar counter won't be to everybody's taste (with the latter being illuminated by a distracting sequence of different-coloured lights). The modern furniture in the staple-shaped lounge is comfortable enough, and there are a couple of large TVs and a pool table (in a side room) for those who look for these features in a pub. Four handpumps, offering Deuchars IPA, Spitfire, Landlord (£3.05) and Old Rosie cider.

Decent place clean and tidy with comfy seating and a bit of a lounge bar feel. There‘s a pool table at the back and large screen TV. The three ales that were on were Deuchars, Landlord and one other.

Used to be a proper ale house with loads of changing guest ales. Still has real ale on but the offerings are all safe, tried and tested regulars now. It's still an OK place to go, but has bouncers on whenever there's a match on at City and at weekends. It never used to need those. Not the force it once was.
