Steve C left this review about The Atherton Arms

The Atherton Arms is a large flat roofed pub with a Sky Sports banner along one of the fences that face the front car park. The entrance leads to a corridor that runs up the left side of the pub. This has a couple of tables and is served by the left side of the central bar counter that also serves front and rear bars. The front carpeted bar has banquette seating along the front and right walls and there are three or four small tables in the large central open space up to the serving counter on the rear wall. This is a Holts pub so their usual keg was available and the four hand pumps were drawing Two Hoots and Bitter. The back bar is a huge rectangular area with wooden flooring that supports a pool table, dartboard and full size snooker table, the latter being covered. The beers on the bar counter mirror that of the front bar. The televisions found throughout were all muted apart from one in this back bar that was showing Sky Sports News. I must admit that I wasn’t expecting much as I climbed the steps to the front entrance, but I’m glad to report that this is a decent local community pub, even if it does feel like a social club.

Visited this 2019 Good Beer Guide pub yesterday and found it to be a friendly pub selling Holt beers. Enjoyed the Two Hoots beer but did not have time to explore the pub which was a shame.

This pub has the feel of a social club. It looks like a social club from the outside and once inside there are 2 rooms. The bar is to the front and at the rear the room has a full size snooker table plus a pool table. As its a Holts pub it has Holts beers. Real ale is dispensed from 3 banks of two pumps. Its nice enough place and a billion times better than the Red Lion around the corner.

Massive two roomed pub with a large lounge at the front and an even bigger room at the rear with a full size snooker table and a pool table. The lounge is comfortably furnished and there are loads of TV screens which were showing both horse racing and cricket. The locals were friendly and there was lots of funny, if somewhat sweary banter going on. 5 cask ales available Holts Mild, Bitter & IPA plus, unusually for a Holts pub, two guest ales Hook Norton Old Hooky and Courage Directors. The Holts bitter was £1.94 a pint and was in very good nick. Be aware that there is karaoke here on both Friday & Saturday nights. This pub is in the CAMRA GBG2013 and quite rightly.
