Another large Victoria street corner pub,struggling against an unsympathetic internal set up which obscures many fine features.In it's current guise as a Irish sports bar it's rather unattractive. There are two raised sections by the front door with worn dark sofas,the long bar is to the right,but there is an interesting three sided feature mid ships with mirrors,thin columns and a fine frieze. I assumed this maybe a boxed in staircase leading directly outside but I couldn't work out any other function for it.Beyond is a snug area with a fireplace and another sofa before two corridors to both the loos and the rear pool room with two tables and exposed brickwork.
Lots of flatscreens with boxing on mute and small circular tables and stools up against a drinking shelf for those gathered at the bar.
Of course no real ale and a very mainstream keg selection with a half of Moretti a rip off at £3.45.The muzak was mindless.
It's all a bit of a mess with a very silly name and awaits someone with imagination.If the pub was stripped of all the modern crap and oirish vibe ,original features could be celebrated and something wonderful could emerge.As it stands no need to revisit.

This was a former Ind Coope house built in the mid-19th century as The Walford. Now known as Yucatan Bar, named after the peninsular in Mexico where 65 million years ago, a meteorite landed which wiped out the dinosaurs. Not a burrito in sight, it's no surprise then that this must of course be an Irish pub; perhaps the owner is a fan of Ian Dury.
This is quite a substantial affair with a rear bare brick room that's home to pool and darts. Much of the interior is original and is very beautiful and ornate, with elegant decorative columns and mirrors with gilded etching. There are also what appear to be vitrous panels with lettering advertising the pub's fayre and also the original name. A fair bit of field panelling to the walls remains and the ceiling is chocolate brown, whereas the floor is modern and seemingly pine. There's also a fair amount of etched glass too; it must have been quite something in its time.
Décor today is a rather eclectic. Furniture is fairly conventional to the main body of the pub, but there are several slightly raised areas with coffee tables and either sofas or Chesterfields; the bar back is simple but may be of some vintage. Lighting comes from either chandeliers or mismatched table lamps. Further décor comprises wall mounted hurling sticks, framed sports shirts in obviously Gaelic colour shemes and pictures of Irish sporting teams, probably associated with the GAA; extra shamrockery is served up in the form of Guinness propaganda. Also included are rock 'n' roll flyers and a wall mounted electric guitar. There are at least two TVs and no less than three projectors, so sport is obviously an obsession here. Customers appeared mixed, from trendy Stokey types to seemingly rather rum and mouthy more traditional locals, some of whom didn't make for a relaxing atmosphere; an ugly dog roamed the room, unsupervised.
There's no real ale of course, so I opted for a pint of Beavertown's Neck Oil at a dreadful £5.40, though in good shape and served by a very friendly and polite barman.
This really isn't my type of place and if I had to go for a drink along this long road, I'd opt for the less than perfect but superior White Hart. I would love to have seen this place in its heyday though.

One of the better "Irish" pubs I've been in. A very eclectic decor with pictures ranging from Jock Stein to Muhammad Ali via Che Guevara.
The pub has 2 pool tables and a dartboard.

This is a big corner pub with lots of different seating areas that all have TVs in them for watching Sky Sports. There are also two projector screens and a couple of pool tables can be found at the rear and these were both being used by some of the large crowd that were in attendance. There was a standard draught selection available and one of the two hand pumps was drawing Pride. Even though there was a queue at the bar I was served very quickly by a friendly member of staff and the Guinness was on good form.
This pub is perfectly acceptable for use on match days and I would have no problem making a return visit.
